All about the red beard
  1. Main growth factors

  3. Can I change the color?

A beard is not just a fashionable feature, often in the eyes of others, and in the minds of the bearded man himself, it is a kind of application for leadership or, at least, courage and brutality. However, men who decide to grow this vegetation sometimes refuse this, in fact, very troublesome undertaking.

And not at all because caring for a beard takes a lot of time and effort - they just suddenly discover that their much-desired attribute has an unexpected color, different from the shade of the hair on the head. The stubble, and behind it the beard, grow red.

How so? Why? And, most importantly, what to do with it? The answers to these and other questions about the red beard can be found in our material.

Main growth factors

In fact, a red beard is not such a rare phenomenon. The only thing is that one man does not pay any attention to it, while for another it becomes an urgent problem. For example, such a shade of facial hair can be a common racial, that is, a natural, or rather, a geographical feature. Suffice it in this regard to recall the representatives of the Celtic nations - the ancient indigenous population of Europe: the Irish, the Scots, and a significant part of the Welsh - the inhabitants of the United Kingdom.

Often, men's beards of some ethnic groups of the Finno-Ugric group of peoples living in the Urals and northern Russia have a reddish tint. Moreover, the hair on their heads is usually light brown.

In these cases, everything seems to be clear - this is a genetic trait, and it is fixed in hereditary mechanisms. It's another matter when dark and even black hair is a national feature. But brunettes, it turns out, can grow a red beard. What does it mean?

Hormonal Disorders

If the color of the hair on the head or face changes, losing its natural shade, but at the same time does not turn gray, there is reason to think. This indicates serious disorders in the state of the body.

Truth, quite often such deep metamorphoses occur when the owner of the beard ceases to be absolutely interested in her condition. For example, as a result of years of neglected chronic alcoholism. Heavy smokers can also observe a change in the color of the stubble on their face over the years.

This happens due to changes in hormonal levels. As a result of the development of addictions, the testosterone level characteristic of a healthy male body begins to fall faster than it would with age.

But even men who are not noticed in the abuse of alcohol and nicotine, sadly, have hormonal disruptions. The reasons can be stress, an unfavorable environment, chronic total overwork, a sedentary lifestyle and overweight. In this case, as a rule, the stubble or beard does not change color immediately, but, as it were, in spots, in parts. The nature of hair growth may also change. Somewhere it slows down, somewhere it remains the same, and this can be quite noticeable in the condition of the beard.

Sometimes, if the changes have not gone too far, testosterone can be increased by taking hormonal drugs prescribed by an endocrinologist.

But, Remarkably, you can often change your testosterone levels through lifestyle changes. Regular physical activity can trigger a surge of this hormone without any medical procedures, which will not only tone the entire body, but also help restore facial hair color, although, of course, not after the first workout. We'll have to be patient. Tidying up the body is not so easy.

Genetic causes

The fact that the shades of vegetation on the head and face do not coincide may be the result of genetic, not amenable to human desires, one might say, random reasons. Nobody can predict how the genes will connect during the conception of the fetus, that is, it is impossible to program the unborn child. And this is great, otherwise copies of popular film actors, rock, pop and rap stars, bloggers, athletes, politicians and other "idols" would roam the Earth ... And, of course, what color (if it is a boy) his future beard will be also cannot be said in advance.

Hereditary traits can appear in the most diverse, sometimes completely unexpected combinations. If there were men with a red beard in the family of the father or mother, then the probability that the hair color of the beard and head does not match is very high. At the same time, it is not at all necessary that these men be contemporaries of the parents of the future carrier of the red beard, they can be ancestors, up to the seventh knee. And at the same time, it does not mean at all that if among the modern relatives of a father or mother there are bearded men whose beard differs in color from the hair on his head, then the boy will certainly show this sign.

The mechanisms of inheritance are complex and convoluted, their task is to ensure our diversity so that there are as many options as possible, just in case.

And beard color is just one of the millions of traits determined by a random combination of genes.

Scientific point of view

From the point of view of modern science, the shade of the hair is determined by the ratio of special pigments - varieties of melanin. The black color determines eomelanin, and its variety - pheomelanin - gives the hair a carrot color. In brunettes, eomelanin suppresses a small amount of pheomelanin, and the hair becomes dark. And for brown-haired people, the opposite is true. It is clear that there can be a huge number of intermediate combinations that give different combinations of beard color: bright red - a little black - pitch black.

It is now known that the synthesis of pigments is controlled not by one, but by a combination of several genes - for this reason, the ratio of pigments that determine the color of hair on the head may not coincide with that which determined the color of hair on the face or other parts of the body.

Modern science does not yet know how to fix chromosomes containing genes, and the consequences of such an intervention can be unpredictable.

What can you say about a person?

According to the tradition that has developed over millennia, the owners of a red beard among many nationalities were endowed with a mass of important, albeit sometimes contradictory, masculine qualities.

It was believed that red-bearded people are characterized by justice, masculinity, loyalty to the word, and decisiveness. But at the same time, they also possessed irrepressible rage and irascibility.

Suffice it to recall such characters as the Scandinavian Thor or the Slavic Perun, who in the Orthodox tradition became Ilya the Prophet, who inherited their character from the ancient Aryan god of the sky - Varunna, endowed with the ability to throw lightning, heavenly shepherds of fat flocks.

According to the tradition of the northern Germans, as well as the Slavs, it was believed that these ancient and very similar male deities had a bright red beard, but the hair on the head was light brown or black.

The character of these guardians of goodness and justice is clearly manifested during a thunderstorm. Noise, storm, thunder and lightning are the obligatory attributes of the chase of these heroes for various evil spirits. If lightning suddenly strikes a tree, hits a house or a person, then an evil force was hidden somewhere nearby, and the lightning was intended specifically for her, and not at all for the victims. Having died down and died down, these fighters against evil quickly calm down. It is easy to observe how after a thunderstorm comes the general pacification of the whole nature.

This is exactly how, again by tradition, red-bearded men are characterized. Initially kind, certainly strong and fair, but quick-tempered and ... easy-going.

In Russia, even in the 19th century, men with red beards were reputed to be reasonable people, able to take care of their large family, household and subordinates, not inclined to rash adventures. But here to anger such fathers of families with thick beards was considered an extremely reckless deed, testifying to desperate deep ignorance.

Can I change the color?

If the color of the growing bristles is not satisfactory, staining can solve this problem. This is not at all an easy matter, and it’s probably not worth tackling it like that right away. It is still better to turn to specialists, at least at the beginning of his journey, a bearded man.

Having gained experience and choosing a special paint that completely satisfies both the shade and the absence of negative skin reactions, you can try to dye your beard yourself.

It is important to remember that hair dye is in no way suitable for facial hair. The components contained in such paint can cause serious burns to the skin of the face, the treatment of which will bring a lot of trouble.

And against the background of the utterly unpresentable physiognomy, the color of the beard will not matter much. She will most likely have to be shaved off, leaving the very idea of a beard until better times.

To avoid allergic reactions that can manifest itself in the form of redness or even a rash on the face, it is better to test any, even familiar paint, on the arm, in the elbow bend - there, even very harsh men, the skin is most tender. Having processed a small area, you need to wait two days. If there are no more opportunities to wait for the cherished hour of changing the color of the beard, you must endure at least a day.

When starting to paint yourself, it is advisable to strictly follow the instructions, otherwise you can get an uneven color or an unexpected, completely undesirable shade, which again can cause the beard to be removed, which has taken on an unacceptable look.

But there is another, the most natural way. You can accept yourself as you are, and not try to change your nature, but live happily with it. There are plenty of examples of famous men whose red beard has become part of their image: Brad Pitt, Conor McGregor, Prince Harry, Christian Bale, Nikita Dzhigurda, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
