A well-groomed and neat beard can make the look of any man more brutal and stylish. However, not every representative of the stronger sex can boast of obedient facial hair, the styling of which does not take much time. What are the ways to straighten a curly beard? What styling tools and styling products can give your beard a neat and elegant look?

Why straighten your beard?

Curly hair is a trait that a person inherits at the genetic level. It is most common among dark-haired men with dark skin. Less often, curliness occurs among blondes and owners of red hair.

Stylists claim that a curly beard can visually age a man, adding an additional ten years to his appearance. In addition, the facial hair sticking out in all directions looks untidy and sloppy, which makes a repulsive impression on the people around.

A curly beard is not able to fit into any stylish formal look. She categorically will not suit either a young or a mature man who prefers a strict classic or practical everyday style.

Curly hair on the face, according to stylists, to a greater extent suitable for adherents of informal movements and representatives of various subcultures. For all other men who want to acquire a stylish and well-groomed beard, experts recommend resorting to the hair straightening procedure.

How to straighten with a comb and hair dryer?

To prevent the beard from curling and sticking out in different directions, you can try to straighten it at home using a number of affordable and simple methods. The simplest of these involves the regular use of a conventional wide-tooth comb. With this tool, you can straighten curly hair, making it grow in one direction.

To do this, experts recommend daily combing your beard as follows:

  • 20 minutes - in the direction of hair growth (beard must be dry);
  • 20 minutes - in the direction opposite to hair growth (beard should be well moistened with water);
  • 10 minutes - in the desired direction of hair growth.

After drying, the beard must be styled by smoothing the hairs in the desired direction.

Experts say that this daily brushing technique will help straighten curly hair and make your beard look fuller and more voluminous.

You can straighten unruly curly hair on your chin with a hair dryer and a wide-toothed comb. In this case, you will need to perform the following manipulations:

  • wash your beard with shampoo, then apply conditioner along the entire length of your hair and leave it for a few minutes;
  • wash off the conditioner, blot the beard with a towel;
  • turn on the hairdryer and, directing a stream of hot air to the beard, comb it thoroughly, pulling the hairs along the entire length.

It should be noted that experts do not recommend straightening curly beards with a hairdryer for owners of capricious, sensitive and dry skin.

The hot steam can cause flaking and irritation of the skin, which in turn can lead to dandruff not only in the beard, but also in the mustache.

Using styling products

Modern manufacturers of hair care products offer men a wide range of gels, mousses, foams and other products for styling beards. The products offered differ both in price and in the strength of hair fixation.

Styling gels and gels are the most popular types of hair straightening and fixing products. The products are a transparent or translucent viscous substance that reliably fixes the hairs in the desired direction.

Gels that provide minimal hold are best purchased for a soft, manageable beard that is easy to comb and straighten. For tight, curly beards, we recommend using strong and extra strong gels.

It is important to take into account that some types of beard styling gels, when applied, provide the effect of "wet hair", which is not acceptable for all representatives of the stronger sex.

Balm is another well-known type of cosmetic product designed for styling and straightening curly hair. The main ingredients in these balms are natural oils and lanolin. Coarse curly hairs become softer and more manageable under the influence of oils. Lanolin, on the other hand, allows you to straighten and fix the hair in the desired direction without sticking it together.

Wax is a greasy cosmetic product suitable for fixing stiff mustaches and small beards with sparse hairs. It is not recommended to use this product for styling and straightening long and thick beards, because when applied abundantly, it sticks together the hair, giving it an untidy and greasy look. The product usually contains beeswax, essential extracts, oils, fragrances.

After application, the warm wax hardens on the hairs, providing them with a secure and long-lasting hold.

Oils are a variety of fairly effective products used to straighten, smooth and style tough, curly beards. The active ingredients in cosmetic oils provide not only reliable fixation and straightening of unruly hair, but also their protection from adverse external factors. Regular use of beard styling oils will make your hair smoother, softer, and shinier.

In addition, this type of product has a beneficial effect on the sensitive and capricious skin of the face (chin).

Before using any hair straightening or styling product you must first wash and dry your beard. If the hairs are very curly, you should comb them thoroughly while they are dry. After the hair dries, it is necessary to apply any straightening and styling product to them, and then distribute it along the entire length of the beard.

After applying the product, the hairs are straightened using a comb with wide teeth and laid in the desired direction.

Using a dedicated rectifier

The most popular hair straightening tool is the classic iron. It is considered the simplest and most effective tool, capable of straightening the toughest and most rebellious curly beard in a matter of minutes. In addition, with this tool, professional barbers use a special comb, which helps to consolidate the effect.

Before straightening your hair, experts recommend washing your beard with regular shampoo, completing the wash with a conditioner. After that, you should wait for the hair to dry, and then comb it. The prepared iron is well warmed up, after which the hair on the face is carefully straightened in successive steps (strand by strand).

The strand clamped in the iron should not be held for more than 3-5 seconds. In addition, it is not recommended to smooth the same strand more than twice in a row.

After straightening all the vegetation on the chin, you should use a styling gel or wax. This will consolidate the achieved result. Special fixing sprays, which keep the beard styling for several hours, have also proven themselves very well.

Using wax or styling gel at this stage will keep your beard looking stylish and neat for 10-12 hours.

Recommendations

If you use to straighten and style curly hair special cosmetic product (gel, balm, wax), it must be thoroughly washed off at the end of the day. Experts strongly advise against neglecting the rinsing off of fixing agents - even if they are used irregularly.

Dried residues of gel, wax or balm not only quickly contaminate the beard, but also have a negative effect on the skin of the face (chin). This can threaten the development of allergic reactions, acne.

So that straightening and styling the beard does not take a lot of time, experts advise using special air conditioner (regular women's hair conditioner will work as well). This product will have a softening effect on unruly curly hair, after which it can be easily combed, straightened and styled in the desired direction.

Coarse and curly hairs will soften regular oil masks that are easy to make at home with your own hands. To carry out such a procedure, it is necessary to warm up a small amount of burdock or coconut oil in a metal bowl, and then apply it along the entire length of the hair for 15-20 minutes. Castor and almond oils are also suitable for this procedure.

You can wash off the oil at the end of the procedure with a regular shampoo, using a conditioner at the end of washing.

Hair that is soft and curly can be made stiffer and more straight, if you regularly wash your beard with regular soap, without using conditioner at the end of the procedure. Soapy water degreases and dries hairs, helping to straighten them. However, this method is not recommended for owners of sensitive and capricious skin prone to dryness and irritation. In addition, washing your hair with soap can cause split ends. Also, with dry skin, using soap is fraught with dandruff in the beard.

Experts do not recommend using special straighteners (iron, curling iron) for styling wet hair. Under the influence of a heated tool, wet hair will literally begin to burn. Damage caused to hair during such a procedure will be irreversible. Such damage, in turn, will cause hair loss and, as a result, a sharp thinning of the beard.

Given the above circumstance, professional barbers do not recommend to abuse the use of a hair dryer, irons and hair straighteners.

Regular thermal exposure of these instruments to the structure of the hairs can lead to their irreversible damage and loss.
