The elegance and versatility of jackets were appreciated by many men. Today it is not necessary to wear it in a pair with trousers solely on solemn occasions or according to the office dress code. The jacket has become an independent and even accent element of the men's wardrobe.

The right blazer will highlight your figure and add a modern touch to your outfit. This interesting element can be easily combined with jeans and pants, turtlenecks and shirts. All that remains is to find the perfect jacket among the many models and sizes, which is not easy at all.

How do I know my size?

The variety of models and unfamiliar names of fabrics, the abundance of flowers and shops are scary. But the main problem lies in the fact that not everyone is sure what size they need.

Here is a short guide on how to calculate your jacket size by chest girth - the main measurement that affects the size of the product.

  • Take a tailor's meter, a special soft tape-ruler, measure the circumference of the widest part of the torso... The tape should go under the arms and around the body at the level of the shoulder blades and the prominent points of the chest. At the time of measurement, it is better to take a deep breath so that the new clothes are not cramped.
  • Memorize the resulting value (for example, 103 cm) and divide it by 2. This will be your size according to the Russian dimensional grid. In our example, we get: 103: 2 = 51.5. We round up and find out the size - 52. When it comes to jackets and shirts, you need to round up so that the thing is not narrow.

It is enough to name the measure calculated according to this algorithm for an experienced seller to suggest the required size. If you prefer to choose clothes yourself, then the table will tell you the correct size designation from a foreign manufacturer.

Why don't the parameters match?

In Europe, Asia, America and Russia, the size grids do not match... This cultural feature is associated with the traditional units of measurement adopted in different countries. If we use the metric system for measurements and, in particular, the centimeter as the basic unit, then for the inhabitants of Great Britain it is more customary to count in inches.

To make it easier for buyers to find, manufacturers targeting several markets mark the measurement option and indicate the size itself on the tags.

When trying on ready-made garments made in Asian countries, it is often found that the garment is smaller than the stated size. This feature is useful to keep in mind when choosing a size. The exception is luxury brands ordering tailoring, for example, in China. They strictly follow that the real size of the clothes matches the numbers on the labels. Mass-market manufacturers are less scrupulous, and therefore their jackets, sewn by Asian companions, may be small.

How to choose a jacket for height and shape?

Suits for special occasions should only be selected in person to ensure that the outfit fits perfectly, or to decide if a blazer needs a fit. A dress jacket is a special matter, because it becomes the hallmark of a successful man.

Why is it that the representatives of the stronger sex do not like to wear blazers so much? Because problems arise during fitting: few people can boast that any jacket fits them. The reason lies in the features of the physique: thin, plump, with disproportionately long arms, for example. Then such parameters as height and waist circumference are involved in the calculation.

The larger the chest girth, the higher the height should be, as a general rule, and, accordingly, the larger the waist girth. But in practice, everything is more complicated.

There are four types of figures for which jackets are sewn.

  • N - the usual physique with a height of 1.62 m, which includes sizes 38–82.
  • B - men with a noticeable tummy, when the waist exceeds the chest circumference. Corresponds to growth from 1.62 m, the size range is designated by odd numbers in the range 51-75. Good models with this type of figure can be found in German brands.
  • S - athletic and tall men, whose waist is significantly less than the chest girth. The usual sizes on them can seem wide, despite the fact that the sleeve is clearly short. For this build, take into account growth from 1.79 m and sizes 88-114.
  • U - size range 24–32 for men of normal build, folded in proportion, with a height below 1.62 m.

Why do you need to separate them into separate groups? Because the standard ruler is sewn to the usual type N. They just need to rearrange the buttons to achieve the desired volume at the waist.

For those whose waist and chest girth parameters differ significantly from the standards, this fitting option will not work: you must initially take into account the features of the figure at the stage of designing clothes.

Fitted or tapered options are suitable for tall men of athletic build, provided that growth is taken into account. This parameter becomes critical with an increase of 1.78 m.Then the blazer fits evenly in the shoulders, and the length of the sleeves is sufficient.

Features of a full figure are taken into account by manufacturers with a waist circumference of 110 cm. Ordinary jackets in this case turn out to be wide at the shoulders and can be gathered in X-shaped folds at the point of attaching the buttons, which will only aggravate the impression.

How to try it on correctly?

To adequately assess your image in a new blazer, ohPay attention to important nuances.

  • The cuff of the shirt should protrude 1.5 cm from under the sleeve of the jacket. For different occasions, this figure varies from 0.6 cm to 2 cm.
  • The length of the sleeve of the blazer, which ends at the level of the base of the thumb, is considered proportional.
  • The collars of the jacket and shirt should be proportionate so as not to sag on the back and not cut into the skin.
  • The correct blazer fits perfectly over the shoulders and does not wrinkle on the back. Does not create folds around buttons when the jacket is buttoned. The slot at the back should not diverge or swing open.
  • The jacket should not be too tight or too large. If a palm is placed between the body and clothing, then this is the right size. If less - it will be cramped, more - ugly.
  • The blazer should take into account your activity: when trying on clothes, raise your arms and spread them across the sides. This little test will let you know how comfortable you feel in your new jacket.

The appearance allows you to make a definite impression of a person. Therefore, a good and properly fitting jacket will demonstrate to others not only a sense of taste and social status. The ability to wear a jacket is also an indicator that you know yourself well and understand what you need.
