You've probably noticed that some clothes have the inherent ability to transform a person and radically change his appearance. In a men's wardrobe, a tuxedo has such features. This outfit requires a special approach and careful selection of additional elements, otherwise the image will turn out to be not elegant, but awkward.

Distinctive features

Tuxedo from English translates as "jacket for smoking". Really, English men, when smoking cigars, did not shake the ashes from them, as this was considered a manifestation of bad taste. Accordingly, the ash fell on the clothes. It was most convenient to shake it off the silk or satin lapels. Not only lapels are the hallmark of tuxedos.

There are a number of other characteristics that distinguish this clothing from the general mass:

  • semi-open chest with a rounded shape;
  • worn exclusively with a white shirt with a stand-up collar;
  • accessories can only be a butterfly and camerbands;
  • a tuxedo cannot be bought in one set with trousers, which, by the way, must have stripes;
  • a tuxedo, unlike a suit, cannot be used for daily use - only solemn and special occasions that are scheduled later than 17.00;
  • the collar is created from velvet fabric;
  • lack of a chest pocket, which is replaced by a buttonhole.

Varieties

The single-breasted tuxedo has both one and two buttons. There are even models with three buttons. All other elements of this special jacket remain unchanged. Double-breasted tuxedos can be fastened with two buttons or four buttons. These models may include pointed lapels and framed welt pockets. There is also a division of tuxedos along the contours of the collar:

  • a pointed collar is also called an English collar;
  • the shawl collar has smoother lines.

Thin, expensive wool is usually chosen for sewing. Models made of velor and velvet are rare. The most original tuxedos are created from jacquard materials. A classic tuxedo is an outfit that suits any special occasion. Such clothes must be present in the men's wardrobe. A classic tuxedo is sewn according to all the rules and canons of style: black, satin / silk lapels, buttons covered with the same fabric.

Wedding tuxedos are the most common option., which is purchased most often. Not everyone likes dark shades in a man's wedding look, which become gloomy next to the bride's light dress. For this occasion, tuxedos are created in gold and silver, with white and blue hues.

Color options

Usually black or blue fabric is used for sewing tuxedos. But there are exceptions, because finding a bright tuxedo is not difficult... It is better to choose trousers in one color and material for a tuxedo. Therefore, the top and bottom should be bought from the same manufacturer. When choosing a classic tuxedo in a dark color, you need to choose black trousers and a snow-white shirt.

The last element must necessarily have a stand-up collar, which stands out with curved ends. This feature will make it easy to secure a bow tie.

The color of the tuxedo for men can be adjusted according to the season. For example, a dark suit is more suitable for a winter look. It can be not only black, the blue tuxedo also looks very extravagant and attractive.White outfit can only be chosen for summer looks. These suits can be made in one color or have contrasting lapels. You should not choose a dark shirt for a white tuxedo - this will create a very sharp contrast and bring disharmony to the image.

Contrast is best created with other elements.

All other colors are appropriate for celebrations without formal protocol. Any color other than the classic should be chosen with care. If there is even the slightest doubt about the harmony of the image, you must abandon your venture in favor of classical solutions.

Imaging rules

The men's tuxedo is an evening attire that requires a special occasion. It is categorically impossible to use it for daytime looks. This is far from the only rule that applies to tuxedos.

  • The belt is one of the taboos that apply to tuxedos. The trousers are simply fastened with two buttons, a camerban or a sash can be added.
  • Pants can only be straight, skinny with satin / silk lapels. The cuffs on the trousers are not needed, and the material of their manufacture must correspond to the fabric from which the top was created.
  • The butterfly should be tied on its own, therefore it is impossible to buy this element already tied. A bow tie can be replaced with a tie, but this option is less popular and is perceived negatively by many.

Therefore, it is better not to experiment and still choose a bow tie for a tuxedo.

  • A vest or sash is selected along the lapels; the color of these elements must match the shirt, bow tie or tie.
  • Cufflinks are used to fix the cuffs on the shirt.
  • The pleats at the waist are directed upwards.
  • Socks and shoes should be black, the use of patent leather shoes is not encouraged.
  • It is better to choose a silk or cotton shirt.
  • Camerbands are contraindicated for a full man with an expressive belly; they are replaced with braces.

Men with a medium-sized physique should take a closer look at double-breasted tuxedos, which can add solidity to the figure. But a single-breasted tuxedo will make your figure more slender.

Beautiful examples

  • If you wear a tuxedo, that's the only way. It is impossible not to fall in love with this fashionable image at first sight. It is striking, expressive, catchy and elegant. The combination of deep blue with black lapels, the same bow tie and trousers made of the same material makes the image original and harmonious. In such an outfit, even for a wedding, even for the presentation of an award - it will be appropriate everywhere. This image can be taken as the base one.

  • We managed to find a good example of how a tuxedo can look harmonious with a tie. The shades of gray are very well chosen here, which makes the image complete. As you can see, there are exceptions, but they need to be treated with great care.

  • Good old classics - nowhere without it. No one dares to call this image boring, because it is perfect. Black top, white shirt, black bow tie and trousers with stripes - nothing else is needed to highlight masculinity and emphasize stateliness.
