Any mattresses, except water ones, need to be turned over periodically. This is not only a manufacturer's recommendation, but also a rule of care for the product, as well as the hygiene of the bed.

What is it for?

Gradually, during use, the mattress remembers the shape of the human body and bends in certain places. As a result, due to the unevenly distributed load, the springs begin to hold poorly, and "dips" appear. Each mattress has its own permissible load level, which is not recommended to exceed, otherwise rapid wear is inevitable. A particularly low limit of "fatigue" is observed in soft mattresses, as they are better perforated and less springy. Even tough coconut coir is partially susceptible to this.

The orthopedic version has independent springs that individually adapt to the sleeper, without creating a wave effect when the person turns over or stands up. Therefore, it lasts longer than products with the Bonnel system. But even such models are subject to "fatigue".

If you turn the mattress on the bed in a timely manner, then the working areas are unloaded, and those that were at rest, on the contrary, take on the load. The result is gradual, uniform wear and deformation of the material. All this significantly prolongs the life of the mattress and affects the quality of sleep. Additionally, ventilation takes place.

To improve ventilation, the product can be vacuumed. Turning over the mattress can be combined with cleaning by cleaning the bottom of the frame from small debris.

How often should you turn it over?

The very first time the mattress is turned over on the first day after unpacking. The product needs to be straightened and ventilated. The mattress is placed on the bed or on the floor and left for a day. After 10-12 hours, it must be turned over. This is necessary to all extraneous odors of production have disappeared, and the filler straightened if it was previously rolled up. Further, during operation, it is recommended to turn the mattress every 2-3 months. Much depends on the quality and material of the filler. For example, foam models can be turned over more often, as they are more prone to wrinkling than spring models.

It is important to turn the mattress over correctly. After the first 3 months, it is recommended to turn the mattress horizontally by 180 degrees, changing the "legs" and "head" in places. After another 3 months, turn it vertically: top-bottom. Further, coups should be alternated every 2-3 months. It is also necessary to turn the product over if it is rarely used. It would seem that there is no load on the springs. But the product needs to be ventilated.

How to turn it over correctly?

If the mattress is versatile, then seasonality must be taken into account. It is more convenient to flip it over to the soft side in September, when the cold season begins. Closer to the New Year holidays, the headboard and footboard should be changed. In the middle of spring it is time to turn the mattress over to the cooler but harder side, and in June again to swap the "legs" and "head".

If the product does not have a seasonal difference in surface, then it can initially be placed on either side. And then turn it over every 2-3 months according to the scheme. Children are advised to turn their mattresses more often as they grow and the spine must be supported in the correct position.

The one-sided version only rotates horizontally, since the second side is not intended for sleeping. The support is made of a special rigid material - a carpet. It doesn't deform on its own, but sleeping on this side is hard and uncomfortable. Most often these are floor mattresses, which can also be placed on a frame bed or pallet. They need to be turned every 3-4 months.

If there are special pens, it is better to use them. Never pull on the cover, piping, trims or ventilation openings as they can be damaged.

If the mattress is wide and heavy, it is better to turn over together... This will reduce the load on the back, eliminate the risk of touching and breaking something from the surrounding objects. It is recommended to move all fragile things in advance.

It is most convenient to turn the product over when changing bed linen. Leave it to air out for a couple of hours. It is also recommended to open the windows. At the same time, it is not recommended to leave the mattress on the end sides, as this leads to deformation. If there are stains or dirt, then clean the surfaces. All together will ensure proper care of the mattress and extend the life of the mattress.
