For good health and an active state of the body, a person needs good rest and sound sleep. To achieve what you want, you need to choose the right sleeping place. Modern technologies allow the use of sofas and beds with mattresses of different designs. The frame mattress is not only the progenitor of all modern products, but is sometimes used to this day.

What it is?

A frame mattress is the earliest attempt at creating a comfortable sleeping place. With the development of civilization, man all the time improved his life and tried to make the house comfortable and functional. Sleeping on straw piles was not conducive to good rest and required some kind of change.

The essence of frame mattresses was that a rigid base of wood was provided for a berth, on which a soft filler was placed.

To make the structure monolithic and easy to use, the upper fabric layer began to be attached to the base, which was the first step towards creating a mattress.

More modern options have metal springs inside, on top of which soft layers of filler are placed. Thanks to the firm base, these mattresses can be placed on any surface: on a bed, sofa, on the floor. The first spring products had a block of dependent springs, newer ones were created using an independent spring block, which was much more convenient.

History of appearance

The first mattresses began to appear in the 16th century, when straw was laid on a rigid base, covered with dense fabric and fixed with leather straps. Over time, the need for more comfortable sleep began to require a transformation in the appearance of the mattress. Instead of straps, the fabric was fixed with nails to a wooden base. To improve the comfort of the bed, they began to use additional layers of dense materials and wool, which gave its result.

In the 19th century, the mattress industry made a huge breakthrough, replacing the old filling of such products with metal springs. The surface of the berth has become much softer and more comfortable, the problem of knocking down the filler and pushing through the most used zones has disappeared.

Gradually, they began to develop blocks with independent springs, but the technology of placing the spring filling in a wooden frame base remained unchanged for a long time. The large weight of the mattress, the ability to use only one side of the product became the factors that contributed to the further development of the industry.

What are they?

The modern mattress market allows you to buy a wide variety of models in terms of cost, size, appearance, thickness and filling. The most budgetary and not too popular options now include frame products. Frame mattresses can have different structures.

  • Products on a wooden frame, on which springs and several layers of soft filler are placed. The upper part of such a mattress is soft, the lower part is hard.

  • With a spring block. A Bonnel block is often used, which has a rigid metal frame and dependent springs around the entire perimeter of the product. The finished block is placed on a rigid base, covered with filler and covered with fabric.

  • Mattress with a rigid base and a block of independent springs. This is a one-sided version of the product that allows you to evenly distribute the weight on the mattress without affecting all the springs.

A variety of springs makes it possible to use various options on a rigid base, which significantly expands the range, and the selection of the optimal mattress becomes much easier. Among the most popular spring blocks are:

  • Bonnel - metal frame and block of dependent springs;

  • Pocket Spring - individual springs, packed in a durable fabric cover, which reduces squeak during use;

  • Multipocket - a block of independent springs, where up to 500 independent springs are placed per m², which provides optimal support for the torso;

  • Hour Glass - springs with the shape of an hourglass, which allows you to create a different degree of resistance and the ability to better adapt to the shape of the human body;

  • multizone models - they have reinforced zones with a large number of springs to support those zones that bear the greatest load.

The right choice of frame mattress will allow you to enjoy a comfortable sleep and rest for many years.

Nuances of choice

To choose a frame mattress, you need to consider where it will be placed:

  • for an old bed, you can buy products on a wooden base;

  • a version with a rigid base can also be placed on the sofa, which will ensure durable operation;

  • for a bed with a rigid base, it is worth taking a Bonnel spring mattress or products with a block of independent springs;

  • for people with heavy weight, products with a rigid base and a block of independent springs are also recommended;

  • for summer cottages and temporary housing, mattresses with a wooden base and frame products with a spring block may be suitable.

When choosing a frame mattress, you need to decide where it will be located and who will sleep on it. The price category also plays an important role, so the choice must be made based on the possibilities. The most preferred filling is a block of independent springs, dependent metal structures will not last so long, and will not be so convenient in operation.
