What should a man do if he suddenly runs out of shaving products, especially if there is no way to go to the store right now? A man's appearance can be ruined by two days of stubble, and at a business meeting or date you need to look good. The answer is obvious - you can make a shaving product at home. Let's consider a couple of options for such a case.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of self-made foam are quite obvious:

  • you will know the composition for sure, and this will already help to avoid allergic reactions and choose the most suitable option;
  • profitability.

There are also disadvantages:

  • the absence of certain components for cooking in the house and the time it will take to make foam with your own hands;
  • foam made at home is usually less fluffy and runs off the skin more easily, therefore it requires quick shaving;
  • batch production, that is, the foam will need to be applied immediately, and not stored, otherwise it will lose its properties.

Cooking nuances

There are a few tricks you need to know to make your own shaving foam.

  • It is better to take dishes for making with wide edges.
  • There are several options for making stubble removers. The most common of these is made on the basis of regular soap, it is best suited for owners of oily and normal skin. This foam will cleanse and disinfect the skin well. The soap base is more suitable for owners of sensitive or delicate skin, because the emollients included in its composition will take care of it. This foam is more like a gel. Foam based on vegetable oils moisturizes dry skin well. It will be similar in consistency to a creamy foam.
  • A shaving brush can be made of any natural bristle (this is very important for allergy sufferers), but badger is considered the most suitable. There are also synthetic options, but they are less popular. Before use, the shaving brush should be soaked in warm water for 2-3 minutes. The boar bristle option will require an additional couple of minutes for the soak time. Synthetics do not need to be pre-soaked.
  • Excess water on the shaving brush will make the foam too thin, so it is advisable to shake off the wet shaving brush to achieve the desired thickness.
  • The water for manufacturing should be higher than the temperature of the human body, but at the same time it should not be too hot, not higher than 60 degrees.
  • Hard water has a bad effect on the whipping speed of the foam itself, so it is better to use warm boiled water.
  • Foam from a soap base will require the purchase of the base itself at the pharmacy. You can also buy it in specialized stores. You can grate with regular soap, but this is more of an emergency option. The production of such foam, as well as foam from solid oils, will require more time and some skill, since they are prepared in a steam bath. Supplements such as sea salt, vitamin E, glycerin are acceptable.

It is worth remembering that, like any cosmetic product, homemade shaving foam can cause an allergic reaction, therefore, experts recommend conducting a small test for skin irritation at the bend of the elbow before using it.

Popular recipes

Soap foam is the most affordable and time-tested remedy. To make thick foam you will need:

  • soap (both household and toilet soap, by choice);
  • shaving brush;
  • water at room temperature;
  • ceramic tableware.

The moistened shaving brush is rubbed against the surface of the soap with quick movements until a stable consistency appears.The resulting composition should be placed in a bowl as quickly as possible and beaten again until the required amount of substance is obtained. As soon as the foam is ready, you should immediately start shaving. Foam from a bowl is applied to the skin with a shaving brush, the skin is shaved with a sharp blade. After completing the shaving process, you will need to wash your face with water of a pleasant temperature and apply a care product.

Use the following ingredients to make a soapy lather.

  • Soap base or soap.
  • A wide cup and a smaller cup (for a water bath).
  • A grater (a knife is also suitable).
  • Capacity for ready-made foam.
  • Herbal or ester decoction supplements are a great addition to the product. Wheat, shea, jojoba butter is usually added. Grape, coconut, almond, and peach varieties are more rare, but can be taken as well.
  • Vegetable oil.

The base is rubbed on a fine grater, placed in a small ceramic bowl. Water is poured into a large container, a shallow cup of soap is placed there and heated. Add about 100 ml of herbal decoction and stir until the soap dissolves. You should also add 0.5 teaspoon (about 4 ml) vegetable oil and a little more glycerin. Ether should be combined with a cool product. Beat the foam with a regular whisk or mixer, transfer to a bowl.

Foam made from solid oils is also popular. The best, according to experts, will be options for foam made from shea butter, cocoa, almond and coconut. Pistachio oil is also very popular. To make foam from solid oils, you will need:

  • container for finished foam;
  • a couple of drops of any essential oil;
  • warm water;
  • binder oil.

The oil (or a mixture of oils in equal proportions) is heated to a liquid state, a binder (usually olive) is added, mixed, and cooled. Ethers are added to the cooled base and whipped with a whisk (you can also use a mixer for this purpose), shave.

How to use?

Homemade foam is made for one use. Apply the product evenly to the face with a shaving brush, shave with a sharp razor, rinse and moisturize with an after-shave product.
