Pros and cons of finishing

Wall surfaces faced with laminate imitating the texture of stone, wood, marble or brick make the room more attractive and comfortable. In addition, finishing walls and floors with identical types of finishing materials visually expands the space. That is why this technique is optimal for small bedrooms.

In its texture, the laminate exactly copies natural materials, thereby creating an atmosphere of comfort and warmth. The most widespread is wood imitation. Therefore, if funds are limited, and you really want to get a wooden surface, it makes sense to take a closer look at such lamellas.

Laminate has several advantages.

  • Simplicity of styling. Laminate is much more convenient, easier and faster to install than decorative plaster or wallpaper. You can arrange a room for them as soon as possible. Moreover, you can do this on your own, without having special professional skills.
  • Affordable price. Buying laminate flooring is much cheaper than purchasing wood panels.
  • Resistant to wear and tear. Of course, this parameter is not so important for bedrooms. Nevertheless, such a cladding will have to be replaced only if you want to completely change the interior. Until this moment, the laminate will serve you faithfully.
  • Noise isolation. The high soundproofing characteristics of the laminate protect the sleeping area from the penetration of extraneous sounds.
  • Decorative characteristics. Laminate flooring of a wide variety of shading solutions and textures is on sale. Thanks to this, it is possible to combine panels by color and style, thereby highlighting a particular functional area in the room.
  • Wide range of. There is a large selection of laminate in stores, which is why everyone can choose exactly the model that will look the most harmonious in the interior.
  • Moisture resistant, external mechanical influences and high temperatures.

These are extremely useful characteristics that are essential for any home environment.

  • Undemandingness. Laminate is easy to use and maintain, even the lightest slabs will not be damaged in the presence of dirt, since they can be restored to their original appearance with ordinary soapy water, which cannot be said about plaster or wallpaper.
  • Hygiene. The surface of the laminate eliminates the possibility of mold and mildew during use.

However, it is worth mentioning the disadvantages that can make themselves felt in the process of using laminate flooring in sleeping rooms.

  • The material does not tolerate changes in temperature and humidity. So, if in winter you leave the door to the balcony open for several days, or neighbors from above flood you, then it will be unrealistic to return the aesthetic appearance to the coating.
  • Exclusively accentuated use. Decorating all walls with laminate, even those that are excellent in color and texture, will look inappropriate in the bedroom.
  • The need for alignment. Laminate flooring is very demanding on the laying area, so its installation requires surface preparation.
  • Laminate is not a natural finish.Therefore, when using products of unscrupulous manufacturers, it is impossible to exclude the release of toxic volatile vapors into the air.

Species overview

Laminate manufacturers these days offer a large assortment of a wide variety of its varieties. Therefore, choosing an option that is suitable in terms of characteristics, quality and price will not be a problem. Let us dwell in more detail on those materials that are widely used for decorating walls in bedrooms.

Sheet pile

The tongue-and-groove panels are distinguished by the possibility of fixing by means of locking mechanisms. They are attached to the wall without adhesive. Laying such a laminate is quick, simple and easy, so the owners of premises often transfer part of the wall decor to the ceiling as part of a single design concept of the room.

Clicky

This is a modern type of finishing materials, equipped with convenient and ergonomic snap locks. Such a laminate is easy to install, and the result is truly impressive. The seams on the surface are almost invisible, and it gives the impression of a perfectly flat and smooth canvas.

Glue

For fixing to glue, a laminate with smooth edges is used. Panels of this type do not provide for locking mechanisms, therefore, they are rarely used for cladding wall surfaces.

It is not easy to install such panels without gaps; usually, repairs are entrusted to specialists.

Possible shades

By tradition, in typical multi-storey buildings, the smallest room is assigned to the bedroom and decorated in light shades. In this case, light gray, white, milky and beige colors of the laminate are most often dominant. These tones visually expand the space and create the effect of lightness and airiness.

The advantages of a bright bedroom are many:

  • it is easy to choose home textiles for such a decor (bedspreads, rugs and curtains);
  • there will be no problems with furnishing the room, since each manufacturer has several lines designed to furnish bright bedrooms;
  • bedrooms decorated in light colors look wider, taller and more spacious;
  • light shades create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and tranquility - this is the state that is required in the bedroom.

And finally, waking up in a bright bedroom is much more pleasant than in a dark one.

How to fix it?

There are several options for fastening the laminate to the wall, the selection of the optimal one directly depends on the shape and footage of the bedroom. In compact rooms with low ceilings, it is better to give preference to horizontal fixation. In this case, the laminate is laid in a cascade or checkerboard pattern so as to make the joints of the boards as invisible as possible. Cladding in the form of lamellas that do not reach the junction of the ceiling and walls will be a good solution for low rooms - by laying the lamellas on the wall in this way, you can visually slightly raise the ceilings.

Vertical fasteners are also suitable for low rooms. But in narrow spaces, you should not use it, since the vertical stripes will visually stretch out even more and narrow the room.

A universal solution for sleeping rooms with any footage will be the diagonal fixation of the lamellas. A room tiled in this way looks quite stylish and original. In addition, such a solution is recognized as the most effective for creating accent areas.

At the same time, diagonal laying is considered the most time consuming, it requires an accurate cut adjustment. And also it should be borne in mind that the consumption of facing material in this case will be much higher than with direct installation.

This is due to the large amount of unused material residues.

To work, you will need the simplest tools that are in the arsenal of any master:

  • drill with drills;
  • a hacksaw for wood or a jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • roulette;
  • building level;
  • screwdriver;
  • square.

The fixing of lamellas on the walls in the bedroom is performed in two main ways - with clamps and with glue.

It is possible to fix laminate panels to the walls with clamps only in cases where it is technically possible to drive nails or any other fasteners into it. Kleimer is a metal bracket with a clamp, holes for nails, screws or fasteners are provided in it.

When fixing to glue, liquid nails, adhesive mixtures, and sealants are used. The mortar is applied to the inside of the panel, fastened to the wall and pressed firmly for a few seconds. This method is extremely easy to install and simple. Each person can do such work with their own hands without resorting to expensive professional services. However, the wall surface in this case should be perfectly flat.

Possible installation problems

Laminate panels themselves are rather heavy, so the structure of the base to which they are attached must have a high margin of safety. It is important that self-tapping screws, nails and staples do not fall into the locking mechanisms during the fastening process. If this happens, the lock will not snap into place completely - over time, this will lead to the appearance of gaps between the lamellas.

For surfaces finished with laminate to please with their impeccable appearance, the wall must be perfectly flat. Otherwise, the panels will not fit tightly, over time they will begin to peel off, distortions and detachment will appear. This design is unlikely to please the owners of the bedroom. That is why special attention should be paid to leveling the surface, most often this is done with plaster.

Alternatively, you can sheathe the walls with plywood. However, this technique is unacceptable for small areas, since in this case the plywood base will begin to protrude forward - this can significantly degrade the appearance of the wall.

The best solution would be the installation of the lathing, this type of fastening will ensure the reliability of fixing the finish and in no way violate the overall aesthetics of the interior.

Examples in the interior

Laminate is a special material that looks harmonious and fits into almost any design. You just need to play it right. The owner of the bedroom can always choose the type of finish for his space that will 100% meet the stylistic orientation of the entire apartment and his taste preferences. Most often, laminate is used for cladding the interior of a bedroom, made in several styles.

Modern. It can be presented in a variety of concepts - the flight of fantasy is practically unlimited here. The panels on sale can be painted, matte or glossy, and can be laid with different geometries.

Country. Rustic style with its rough notes. In this design option, the laminate is always appropriate. It is best to use dark to medium shades with a natural wood texture. This solution is harmoniously combined with wrought iron accessories, wooden ceiling beams and solid wood furniture.

Japanese style suggests an abundance of bamboo. Laminate with such a design these days is far from uncommon - it becomes the main accent in the bedroom. Particularly impressive is the wall lined with such and slats at the head of the bed.

Chalet. An interior style created with a combination of stone and wood. The best solution in this case would be to lay lamellas on the walls and ceiling surface. It is advisable to use the color of the panel that will maintain maximum harmony with the wooden elements of the room and the ceiling beams.

Minimalism. It involves the use of lamellas of the same shade - these can be both light and dark shades. But an excessive color palette in such a bedroom, on the contrary, is inappropriate.The basis of this style is restraint and conciseness.

But hi-tech does not accept tint overflows. Therefore, the gray, black and white tones of the laminate in the bedroom will come in handy. And modern technology will complement them.
