You have to make the bed every day, but it is much harder to do this if you also need to rewrite the sheet every time. Not everyone and not always have free time for this. Plus, a crumpled sheet can ruin your sleep well. To learn how to firmly fix the sheet over the mattress using specially designed holders, as well as improvised materials, read the article below.

Using special holders

As already mentioned, you can fix the "wandering" sheet on the mattress using special holders.

"Crocodiles"

The most famous fittings for the sheet on the mattress. They are a rubber band with clamps at the ends. Such fasteners got their name thanks to them. They have "teeth" and were commonly used to attach curtains in the past.

In the middle of the belt of the product there is a retainer, thanks to which the tension can be adjusted by changing the length of the belt. "Crocodiles" are attached to the edges of the sheet under the mattress.

One mattress usually needs about 4 pieces. However, with constant use, such products destroy the fabric at the attachment points.

Double clamps

They are one of the most gentle bindings. They are a thick rubber band with clips at the ends. They are attached as simply as possible: on two opposite sides of the sheet. On average, such products can stretch more than 5 times.

Other

Will help secure the sheet and triple fasteners. There is a metal triangle in the middle of such a product. Stretch fabric straps are attached to the three sides of this triangle. The straps are located at the ends of the straps. The product itself resembles the letter "T". The mount is located under the mattress and near the corners. One of the clamps clings to the corner of the sheet, the second two to the adjacent sides. Despite the fact that this fastener is considered strong and reliable, it quickly wears out the sheet. In appearance, the model slightly resembles suspenders for men's trousers.

There are also special plastic clips in the form of tubes with a cut on one side. They are worn on the edge of the mattress over the sheet. Often they are sold in special departments and stores that sell bedding products.

They are concise, reliable and easy to use.

All of these holders can have different clamps: from “toothed” to clips. The most reliable fastening is traditionally considered to be a loop fastener. It consists of two parts: the main part (pin-shaped button) and the auxiliary part (loop cape). This mount is usually made of plastic. The fabric is placed over the button, and then a loop is thrown over it and the fabric. Then you need to fasten the other part of the sheet. It is imperative to make sure that the fabric is stretched and under slight pressure. Otherwise, the mount will not hold. The minimum price of holders on average starts from 100 rubles for 5 pieces, and the maximum price can go up to a couple of thousand.

Fastening with improvised means

Despite the presence of fasteners for sheets in stores, most housewives still prefer to make clips with their own hands. Here are some interesting options.

  • Clothespins. This is one of the most budgetary clamps. The sheet is attached with clothespins to the bottom end of the mattress along its perimeter. They practically do not tear the fabric.
  • Paper clips. These attachments are similar to clothespins and are attached using a similar mechanism. This method is not suitable for families with small children (paper clips are small parts), and it is also not durable. You need to fasten paper clips only in those places where it will be impossible to stumble upon them in a dream. This is often the bottom of the mattress. One long side of the mattress usually requires up to 6 staples. On the smaller sides, you can use 2-3 paper clips. The mount is not suitable for those who toss and turn a lot in their sleep.
  • Buttons. They are sewn to the inside of the mattress. Holes are made in the appropriate places on the sheet. Buttons are later threaded into them. The method is suitable for those who want to fix the sheet without using an elastic band.
  • Another life hack that allows you to fix the sheet over the mattress is sewing on loops. One loop is sewn to each side of the corners of the sheet. To fix it, you need to tie them together. For hinges, it is best to choose tape or material that does not stretch. Such fabric will tie more easily and tightly. Two loops can be replaced with one elastic band. It is sewn in the same places as the buttonholes. This method is considered one of the most familiar and convenient.
  • The next method requires a regular white elastic band (which most people have at home) and two pins for each corner of the sheet. The elastic must be cut into four 20 cm pieces. Then each piece is attached to the sheet on both sides with pins. However, this method is considered not entirely safe due to the likelihood of the pins breaking off.

How to fix on the sofa?

Keeping the sheet on the couch is not easy due to the size and shape of the furniture, which is different from the mattress. But, nevertheless, it is possible. This is especially true for leather sofas and other similar furniture with smooth and sliding upholstery.

  • In this case, sheets with a sewn-in rubber band will help out. The main thing in this matter is to choose the right size of the sheet. The elastic is easy to sew on your own, but any atelier can provide such a service.
  • Another option is to sew duct tape around the edges of the sheet. Its fastening is not always reliable, but, nevertheless, it reduces the likelihood of the sheet slipping. Usually three lines of adhesive tape are sewn on.
  • After the sheet has been laid, you can put on the fabric wrap around the sofa with sewn-in elastic. This product looks like a "skirt" for a sofa with an elastic band. You can also purchase it in the appropriate stores or sew it yourself.
  • Instead of an elastic band that is sewn around the perimeter of the sheet, you can use a long lace. It is convenient in that the tension can be adjusted. The lace is tied on its own.

It is imperative to remember that some types of fabric are sliding and, despite the presence of fasteners, can crumple or move on the mattress or sofa. It is better to replace such a bed product with an analogue made of natural fabrics like cotton or linen.

This will not only reduce the problem of moving the sheet, but also improve the quality of sleep (natural materials have a beneficial effect on sleep).

In conclusion, it is worth noting that children, as a rule, need to be fastened to the sheets. They are the ones who most of all toss and turn in their sleep. These bindings are best used on cotton or satin sheets. Other materials may be damaged or may not tolerate some types of fasteners. It is also impossible to say which of the methods is the best or universal. You need to find out through independent experiments. Often, hostesses combine several mounting options for better fixation.
