When planning a business trip or vacation, people often prefer to travel by plane, as this method of travel can significantly save time. However, the question arises of how to organize the luggage so that there are no problems during the screening at the airport. Many people, especially men, are interested in whether it is possible to take a razor on a plane.

Can I take my razor on the plane?

Men use a razor every day, so keep it close at hand. But not every item you need can be taken on the plane in hand luggage. For safety reasons, rules have been developed that determine what you can take with you. The general guidelines are followed throughout the world, but each airline may have different requirements for the list of prohibited items.

The fact is that the basic rules for ensuring flight safety are established by the international civil aviation organization. However, they are not a single document for all airlines in the world. Despite the significant contribution of the organization to ensuring the safety of flights over the territories of the participating countries, decisions and documents are advisory in nature. Often, rules are governed by national laws, and airports and airlines can implement their own security measures.

For example, cutting and piercing objects with a blade length of 6 cm or more are universally prohibited. However, some air carriers will not allow small nail scissors, nippers, or short nail files in your bag. And if you forgot to put your manicure accessories in your luggage, you will have to part with them during the inspection. In some cases, people say that they managed to carry a certain prohibited item in their carry-on baggage. This is not due to lenient requirements, but rather due to equipment failure or personnel carelessness.

The same ambiguous requirements can be for shaving appliances. Sometimes they are not mentioned at all in the transportation rules. Therefore, the answer to the question of whether it is possible to carry the shaving razor in carry-on baggage will depend on whether what kind of razor you are using.

Obviously, a straight razor with a thin, long, sharp blade will be banned from carriage everywhere. It must be properly packed and put in a suitcase.

A lot of questions arise with the transportation of a safety razor. If this is a machine with a replaceable unit, then claims are usually not made, as well as for one disposable model. However, the thin metal handle of the machine can serve as a pretext for the confiscation of the item, for example, in Egypt it will be mistaken for a knife. Razors that cannot be disassembled and from which it is impossible to remove the blade are allowed to be transported by most Russian carriers. Collapsible models and especially the blades for them are forbidden to be taken on board in many countries of the world.

The electric shaver is unlikely to have any questions; it can be easily carried in hand luggage. But such an accessory takes up a lot of space in the bag, which is not very convenient for passengers of low-cost airlines. Such carriers have strict requirements for the size and weight of the baggage that they take with them into the cabin of the aircraft. In addition, even handbags, laptops are not allowed, it is advisable not to have books, newspapers and magazines, folders with documents in your hands. Before boarding, the worker will measure the amount of the luggage using a special frame. You should know that for an additional fee, you can take standard weight luggage on the road.

In such a situation, in order not to overload the suitcase, the way out will be to take safe disposable machines. Many representatives of the stronger sex prefer not to take the razor on the road, but to buy a package of disposable appliances at the place of arrival. They are inexpensive and can be found in any supermarket or small store anywhere in the world.

In addition to the device itself, if it is not an electric shaver, you will need foam or shaving cream. And also a man needs aftershave or cologne. The rules also apply to the transportation of shaving products, so it's worth learning more about them.

Transportation rules

Experienced travelers understand that they may face different situations at the airport, so they try to find out in advance how and what items can be carried in hand luggage, and which ones are better to leave in the luggage. In addition, the rules may be updated due to changes in the world situation. On the official websites of airlines, you can usually find out the nuances that interest you. Moreover, you need to look for information on the website of the very company whose plane you are going to fly. If the necessary information is not available, it will not be superfluous to contact the employees of the company or the airport by the contact phone number.

The rules define hand luggage as things that you can take with you into the cabin of the aircraft. First of all, they regulate the weight and dimensions of the bag, as well as the list of things that you can additionally carry without hindrance without checking in your luggage. All airlines are allowed to take a folder with papers, outerwear, an umbrella and a bouquet of flowers, newspapers and magazines for reading, portable electronic devices. The list includes items and food items for a small child that will be needed during the flight. Medicines containing prohibited substances are also mentioned. If you have a prescription or a doctor's certificate, you can have them with you.

Also, companies will not prohibit (and even recommend) the transportation of documents, money, valuable items and jewelry, keys, mobile phones and cameras in carry-on luggage.

A separate section of the rules is devoted to items that are prohibited to transport.... The ban covers not only weapons, but also everything that will even imitate it (for example, toys). The presence of poisonous, poisonous and flammable substances, sharp, cutting and stabbing objects is unacceptable. These include knives, cutlery, scissors, work tools, razor blades, straight razors. Items that do not fall under the strict prohibition of carriage by air must be sent in baggage.

Of course, the rules do not contain a specific list of all possible things that a person can carry or that may be needed while traveling. Only those that are potentially dangerous are named, their characteristics are indicated. An electric shaver can be carried in carry-on luggage and does not pose a threat to the safety of other passengers. However, during the search, you may be asked to show it. Like an electric razor, one disposable safety razor can be carried in your carry-on baggage.

If you are going to take shaving cosmetics with you, you need to carefully study the rules for transporting liquids. The fact is that a liquid substance means not only drinks, but also any perfumes, pastes and gels, oils and creams, sprays and lotions, cosmetics in liquid form (even lip gloss and mascara). If your shaving gel or other product comes in containers larger than 100 ml, you cannot carry it in your carry-on baggage. Even if there is very little lotion in a 200 ml bottle and it is obvious that its amount is much less than 100 ml, you will have to leave it.

The rule states that each liquid product must be packaged in a container with a volume of up to 100 ml. And they, in turn, must be in a transparent plastic bag, tightly closed with a zip-zipper. If you cannot meet these conditions, please check your shaving supplies in your checked baggage.

Exceptions are items purchased from the airport duty-free shop. When purchased, they will be sealed in a sealed bag, and its integrity cannot be violated. And also it will not be superfluous to keep a check for the duration of the flight.

Recommendations

So that the journey is not overshadowed by unpleasant unforeseen situations, adopt some guidelines.

  • Before you start packing, decide what exactly you may need on the road, what things to have with you. Then find out on the official website of your airline the rules for the carriage of baggage and hand luggage, inquire about the list of permitted and prohibited items.
  • Information about the permissible weight of the suitcase will be useful.... Usually it ranges from 20 to 23 kg, each company sets its own limit. Experienced travelers recommend weighing your suitcase before you hit the road, as all carriers charge an excess weight. This can be a fixed amount (very significant) or a fee for each extra kilogram. Its size is on average 5-10 euros.
  • Ask if this company allows you to bring shaving tools on board... If you don't find the answer and you have doubts, put your shaving accessories in a suitcase to avoid unpleasant situations.
  • Send all the cans and bottles with perfumery and cosmetic products there, if the container volume exceeds 100 ml. They also need to be placed in plastic bags, as containers can lose their tightness due to pressure drops. A good solution would be to purchase a travel shaving kit - it contains all the necessary formulations in small quantities.
  • Pack your straight razor in such a way that it cannot ruin other things in your suitcase: when loaded onto an aircraft and unloaded from the luggage compartment, suitcases are usually subjected to rather strong mechanical stress.
  • If you are carrying an electric razor or a safe disposable razor in your carry-on baggage, make sure that they can be easily presented in case of need.
  • Arrive at the airport with a spare time, to be able to leave unnecessary things that outweigh the luggage with people accompanying you or in the car if you leave it in the parking lot.
  • Find a safe place for your passport and other documents from which you can easily get them. And also keep money and valuables with you without leaving them in your suitcase.
  • Do not open bags with purchases from the store. duty freeuntil you have left the arrivals area.
