The debate about what is the best way to shave has not subsided for several decades. The fact is that men have a different approach to this most important hygienic procedure. Some hate the need to remove regrown stubble every morning, the second treat it as an everyday necessity, and still others take it with pleasure. We will try to figure out which is better - a razor or an electric razor in our review.

Characteristics of devices

Removing excess hairs from the face is the most important procedure for any member of the stronger sex, and the problem of selecting the optimal tool to this day worries many. Machine tools and electric razors have been and remain the eternal adversaries in this protracted battle.

Often the choice of a person depends on what instrument he got used to from his youth, however, this approach is far from always successful. Therefore, when choosing, you need to rely only on facts. First, let's try to figure out what classic looms and electric razors are.

The machines are offered for sale in three versions.

  • Disposable. These products are lightweight and easy to use. Thanks to this, the disposable machine has long and firmly taken the leading position in the market and has become the best-selling machine. Men are attracted by its low cost and mobility - they can be used while traveling or on a business trip. However, such models have two serious problems at once. Firstly, the blades are not of high quality, so the machines often have to be changed. Secondly, in order to shave with quality, you need to forcefully press on the machine, press on it. This injures the skin, causing inflammation, flaking and redness.
  • T-shaped machines are a real "classic of the genre". This machine is a massive metal object with a safety blade. These stubble removers are only suitable for men who have a fair amount of shaving experience and are completely confident in their skills. Such a tool is not recommended for young men who take the machine in hand for the first time. However, this is the only drawback.

In all other respects, the quality of shaving is kept at a high level - the blade cuts the bristles at the root, it can be used for years, while replaceable blades have a fairly affordable cost.

  • Machine tools with replaceable cartridges. Such models are available in a dozen of all kinds of variations, they are vibrating, as well as with a floating head or several blades. The advantages include a sharp cutting surface, physiological rubberized handle, ergonomics and availability at the point of sale. However, as with disposable razors, such a shaving is associated with an increased risk of skin irritation, many users face the problem of ingrown hairs.

The electric shaver also has its own characteristics. There are 2 types of electric shavers - mesh and rotary. The mesh can be used for sensitive skin, the system allows you to remove hairs of different lengths, while the blade is covered with a special mesh that prevents cuts and abrasions. The rotor mechanism consists of several blades moving around its axis, they allow you to shorten both long and very short bristles. Depending on the model, the number of heads may differ - the higher it is, the better the shave will be. Most modern models have 1 to 4 heads.

Recently, models with a battery have been very popular. Their advantage lies in the fact that they do not require free access to an energy source. Of course, this shaver will also need to be recharged from time to time, but the shaver will not let you down on a long journey. The charge of the cheapest nickel-cadmium battery is enough to work continuously for 30-45 minutes, the most expensive lithium batteries can perform their tasks without stopping for at least 2 hours. Not so long ago, electric shavers appeared on sale that cleanse and moisturize the skin, these additional options significantly affect the cost of the product.

Advantages and disadvantages

Machine tools

Blade machines were first introduced to the market in the early 19th century, before that men used unsafe open-blade shaving. Nowadays, the classic machine with replaceable blade units is in great demand, and this is due to its undoubted advantages:

  • The machine provides the cleanest and smoothest removal of regrown bristles, its sharpened blades are much faster and easier than an electric shaver to cope with regrown hair on the face.
  • When shaving, cosmetic products are commonly used - most often shaving foam, as well as after shave cream. They additionally nourish and moisturize the skin, which in the best way affects their condition.
  • The availability of machines also attracts users; you can buy a package of necessary shaving accessories in every store at an affordable price.
  • No special skills, knowledge and skills are required to use the machines.

Even a young man who first took it in his hands or a person of mature age can cope with it.

However, the machines are not without their shortcomings.

  • Shaving with a machine is associated with the risk of injury. Of course, you cannot cripple with such a blade, as was the case with straight razors. But the likelihood of abrasions and cuts cannot be ruled out.
  • The machine requires a constant change of blades. This means that you will have to spend all the time on replacing consumables, while the price of a blade unit on the market often exceeds the price of the razor itself.
  • The machines are rather difficult to use on trains or in other vehicles, since high-quality depilation requires special skin care products and a large amount of water.

Electric shaver

Any home appliance retailer these days offers a wide range of electric shavers. There is no need to be surprised at the demand for the product, since this razor has very impressive advantages.

  • Shaving does not require any additional funds, it can be done without water, foam, creams or other cosmetic formulations.
  • The compact size of the electric shaver allows you to perform hygiene procedures outside the home.
  • Shaving takes very little time, while trauma to the skin is completely excluded.
  • Even the most inexpensive razor can last at least 1.5-2 years with intensive use.

Among the disadvantages are the following.

  • Shaving does not cleanse the pores, so after the procedure there is always a high risk of small pimples with acne.
  • The price of an electric shaver is quite high. Even the most budgetary device is always an order of magnitude higher than the cost of a set of machines.
  • In the event of any malfunction of the electric shaver, you have to contact the service center - it is impossible to fix it yourself without professional skills and knowledge.
  • A constant source of electricity is required to recharge the battery.
  • The appliance makes a noise during operation. This is not very convenient if you have to fight early in the morning, when all the other household members are still asleep.

What to choose?

Let's try to figure out which is better - a razor or a machine. Let's take a look at a few basic selection criteria.

average price

Razors have an affordable cost. The price tag for an average model starts at 120 rubles. However, they often have to be changed; on average, men spend at least 2 thousand rubles on this a year. An electric shaver is considered quite an expensive pleasure, even the most ordinary product costs about 1.5 thousand, while it can serve its owner for quite a long time.

However, sometimes the owners are faced with the need for qualified repairs.

Shave quality

The machine gives the highest quality and cleanest shave. But since its blades are open, it is possible to injure the skin during use. Without a lack of experience in shaving, men often experience abrasions and cuts on their skin. The use of an electric razor completely eliminates injury, since the blades are closed.

Mobility

The machines can be taken with you on the road, they do not take up much space. They do not require electrical energy to use them, although they require special cosmetics and water for a quality shave. An electric shaver is very difficult to use outside the home, especially if the model does not have a battery and needs free access to an AC power source.

Durability

No machine will last long, even there are options that are suitable for a single use. An electric shaver takes 2 to 3 years to complete, although owners often face the need for repairs. Obviously, despite the rather high cost, from an economic point of view, an electric shaver can become a more practical purchase. It does not require regular costs for the purchase of new machines, and it lasts much longer.

But, Each person's skin has its own characteristics, and men's shaving skills differ. To make the right choice, it is better to test both the machine and the electric shaver.

The question of using this or that shaving technique for any representative of the stronger sex is individual, and the only correct answer to it can only be suggested by your skin.
