Choosing the style of the interior for an apartment, many stop in such a direction as a loft. The style is original, it testifies to the taste of the owners, their desire for self-expression, individuality. You can design any room in this direction, but in this article we will focus on the features of creating a loft-style hallway.

Style features

The loft came to us from the last century, and the reason for its occurrence was the economic crisis in the United States. At that time, production facilities collapsed one after another, and the premises of former factories were left to fend for themselves. After some time, artists and masters of art began to come there, who appreciated the free layout, the abundance of light and the absence of clutter. And then not only artists, but also ordinary people took note of such an interior. The popularity of the loft has only increased over the years. Today it is one of the most interesting, spectacular and beautiful interior styles.

Here are some of the requirements that a loft-style hallway must meet:

  • a large amount of light: both natural and artificial;
  • simple and without unnecessary frills design;
  • finishes in one range, which can be light or dark;
  • spaciousness: there should be no clutter of wardrobes, jackets, accessories;
  • the use of natural materials for decoration.

Hallways made in a similar direction should have high ceilings. This visually expands the room.

But it is not worth laying carpets here, since such a solution does not at all correspond to the concept of a loft.

Wall and floor finishes

When creating a loft-style hallway design, you need to try to match the industrial interior as much as possible. To do this, you need to choose the right colors and materials. Let's start with the first ones.

  • White. It is one of the three colors most commonly used in a loft. White visually expands the space, makes it more voluminous. This color looks especially interesting in small corridors.
  • Gray. Asphalt or concrete color is another popular solution. A light shade is suitable for small hallways, while in spacious corridors you can afford dark tones. It will turn out very effectively if gray is combined with white.
  • Brick. This color is a "classic of the genre" of a loft. It can be found in almost all rooms decorated in this style. To keep the brick from appearing gloomy, it is important to think carefully about the lighting.

Now it is worth considering the aspects of the choice of materials for finishing different parts of the hallway.

Walls

When entering your house, guests will immediately pay attention to the walls, so they need to be decorated especially carefully. The most advantageous and profitable solution will be a brick wall. If brick was used in the construction of your house, you can easily make repairs yourself. All you have to do is remove the wallpaper and old wall coverings. Walls with white and red bricks look equally beautiful. If necessary, you can paint the material. Also, it will be interesting if you can give it a “vintage touch”. To do this, potholes and cracks can be made on the surface of the brick.

If there is no desire or opportunity to work with a real brick, you can use its imitation. For example, now there are overlays that imitate brick. You can even glue wallpaper with such a pattern, but this is the cheapest and not very interesting option.Also, the walls can be simply plastered.

Floor

The floor in the loft is wooden. Natural wood is the best option, of course. However, this solution is not economical. Mostly in such hallways, old or artificially aged wood boards are used. They are painted in a light or dark shade, depending on the desire and type of interior. If you want more budgetary ideas, then a laminate stylized as a tree can come to the rescue. Remember the skirting boards should be the same color as the rest of the trim. If the desired option is not on sale, you will have to resort to staining.

Ceiling

To create a loft in the hallway, designers recommend high ceilings. If they differ in sufficient height, you can afford such a spectacular solution as wooden ceiling beams, which can be seen in factories and plants. But if the ceilings are low, this option will not work. In this case, you can cover the surface with a primer and paint. Raw concrete would be a stylish idea.

What kind of furniture will fit?

Loft-style furniture should be functional and simple, pretentiousness is not welcome here. In the interior of such a hallway, there should not be massive, huge wardrobes with a lot of clothes. Uncomplicated and lightweight options are the best idea. Here are some suitable solutions.

  • Open cabinets. In most cases, open wardrobes are used in the loft style. This makes the space lighter, more airy. Clothes should only be placed in them that you are wearing now. Models cluttered with fur coats and sheepskin coats do not look very elegant. The cabinet can be either built-in, which saves space, or free-standing.
  • Shelving. Open original shelving is the "highlight" of the loft. You can put the necessary and useful little things on them: hats, gloves, keys, wallet. In addition, you can put shoes on the racks.
  • Hangers. If you have hangers, you can completely abandon the cabinets. You can hang things on hangers, shoes will find their place on the shelves. It is best if the hangers are hooks. There are both simple and original models of such devices. For example, deer antlers look very interesting.
  • Banquettes. Both ottomans and loft-style banquets look appropriate. You can even use a carriage coupler, although it would seem that this is unacceptable in a loft. Not at all: in times of crisis, when the style was just emerging, people set up factories in their own way, carrying there all the items they could find. This explains the loft's tolerance for mixing with other destinations.

But the wardrobe in such a hallway should be abandoned, since such models are knocked out of the general concept. It is worth putting such cabinets only if the corridor is not separated from the living room by a partition. Then the wardrobe itself will become this partition, and the interior will look complete.

Furniture items can be made from different materials. Typically, there are two main types of them: wood and metal.

Made of metal

Metal shelves look most impressive in the interior of the hallway in the described style.

It is advisable to choose the simplest options - excesses are not needed here.

The shelves can be either small (for storing keys or gloves) or elongated. On such models, you can put shoes, bags, fold scarves and hats.

Also, the simplest hangers can be made of metal. They will look like a bar connected to the walls on both sides. To hang your clothes, you will need to use a hanger. But this design is fully consistent with the concept of style. And even a cabinet can be made of metal. To do this, you will need to fasten the corrugated metal sheets. The resulting design will look like a factory container. Many people will also like the corner metal shelf-rack on which you can place your shoes.

Made of wood

Wooden pieces of furniture have always been popular. For the manufacture of furniture in the loft style, craftsmen use natural solid wood, MDF or chipboard. Each of the options has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is important to note that wooden furniture should be as simple as possible, even some roughness is welcomed. In many cases, the wood is even left unpainted, which only emphasizes the originality of the design. However, furniture units can be varnished to increase their service life.

The combination of wood and shaped pipes looks quite interesting. Such furniture is somewhat reminiscent of street models of benches and tables. It fits perfectly into the loft. For example, profile pipes can be included in racks, open shelves, chairs, shoe cabinets.

Lighting Ideas

Lighting in a loft should always be thought out with great care, because this style assumes an abundance of light. Large crystal chandeliers are, of course, out of place here, as are models with shades (except for metal ones). Original lamps look much more interesting. Lighting fixtures should be similar to street models. For example, a chandelier in the form of a lantern or a kerosene lamp will look beautiful. You can even place several such devices. If the ceiling is high, you can let the fixtures hang freely from the ceiling.

If the hallway is small or narrow, then an LED strip would be the best solution. It is recommended to run it around the entire perimeter of the room, focusing on the mirror. If you want to highlight some special items, they are also highlighted with a ribbon.

In addition to the above, you can use:

  • modern spotlights;
  • light bulbs near the mirror (you can just leave them naked);
  • multilevel backlighting.

It is also worth remembering that cold white light in a loft is discouraged. Better to stay on warm shades.

Decor and accessories

Accessories are the most important part of a loft. Each of them must be correctly selected, otherwise the concept will be violated. The first and most needed accessory in the corridor is a mirror. You can take both a large and a small model, it all depends on the size of the hallway itself. The mirror serves a practical purpose, but that's not all. Even a small product will visually increase the space. Models can be round, oval, square. Solutions in rough wooden frames look very nice. Anthracite gray can also be used.

As for other accessories, the following solutions will look more than appropriate in this style:

  • subway map;
  • road signs;
  • sign with the words "exit", hung over the door;
  • direction arrows;
  • fire extinguishers;
  • city posters that can be seen in shops, metro, cafes;
  • vinyl stickers.

You can also decorate the decoration of the hallway with the help of paintings. Abstract models are most suitable. Multi-colored landscapes and still lifes should be discarded. Another great idea is the use of photographs. They must be black and white. Photos can be placed in antique-styled frames. However, they do not have to portray people. Photos of old factories, factories, mechanisms, city streets are also suitable. To harmonize the environment and give it freshness, large plants in tubs are often used. It is important that they are real.

In addition to the above, there are several more decor variations.

  • Records from a gramophone. They can be hung on the walls, first enclosed in a frame.
  • Paintings without images. This is a newfangled move, which not everyone knows about yet. The picture has a frame, but there is no picture in it. Stylish and extravagant solution.
  • Bike. It is better if this decor item is old. The bike is hung on the wall or simply placed next to it. This is a good idea for long corridors.
  • Paint container. It is recommended to place such a thing near the bedside table, and it serves to store umbrellas. You can complement such an element with an ottoman made in the form of a bucket.

As for the wall covering itself, it can also be decorated, especially if it is a simple plaster. On the walls, you can paint spectacular graffiti that matches the urban direction. Wall murals with urban motives also look beautiful, but they will be appropriate only in large hallways. If there are windows in the room, then it is unacceptable to use curtains. Blinds or roller shutters will do.
