The classic style is considered a universal solution for hallway decoration. It is quite simple to implement and is suitable even for people who have never done a design.

Style features

Today, under the classic style in the interior, including in the hallway, we mean something strict both in composition and in colors. Usually muted and restrained shades that are pleasing to the eye are chosen to decorate the space. Extravagant solutions, uncomfortable for perception, are impossible here. The classic requires the use of natural materials and the preservation of natural colors and textures. However, high-quality artificial analogues, for example, imitating wood flooring, are also possible in it.

Traditionally, in a classic interior, there is a central object around which other objects are lined up, but often the inconvenient layout of the hallway makes it impossible to comply with this rule.

This style is characterized by the use of symmetrical furniture of strict geometric shapes, but no less often there are carved elements, stucco moldings and various decor in it. Modern interpretations of classic hallways also include multi-level lighting systems, forged parts, carved mirrors, expensive textiles and candlesticks. American classics are characterized by the choice of solid wood furniture, the organization of functional areas and the moderate use of decor.

The color palette in a classic hallway can be neutral, pastel or dark. Neutral range involves the use of shades that do not particularly attract attention, but they become an excellent backdrop for furniture and decor. These, as a rule, include white and light gray colors, which, in addition, visually expand the space. Pastel colors - pink, peach, mint, beige, lavender and others - allow you to add lightness to a strict interior. White details are usually used to enhance the effect.

With dark tones in the hallway, you should work extremely carefully.to avoid the "closet" effect and create an oppressive atmosphere of a small, uncomfortable space. The chosen shade should look natural and be “diluted” with light objects.

Decoration Materials

The classic style in an apartment requires the use of basic materials.

Floor

It is customary to design the floor in the hallway using the same material as in the adjacent corridor. In most cases, for this purpose, linoleum, parquet or cheaper wood panels. It will look good in a spacious room natural marble or tiles imitating it. When choosing materials for a classic hallway, it is important not to forget that high traffic is always observed in this space, and the surfaces are constantly contaminated and exposed to various influences. Durable marble, not afraid of moisture and easy to clean, is considered more preferable, but not everyone can afford it.

Walls

Wallpaper looks best in the interior of a classic hallway. However, it is better to choose moisture-resistant varieties, since near the front door a large amount of dust and dirt accumulates on the walls. Cloths look luxurious, but are expensive and do not respond well to wet cleaning. Paper canvases are unlikely to last long, but their low cost will allow you to regularly change the appearance of the room. Some projects allow you to paint the walls in a single shade or cover the surfaces with decorative plaster.

Wooden panels and masonry look interesting near the front door.

Ceiling

In a hallway decorated in a classic style, they are most often mounted suspended structures in basic white color. This solution allows you to mask surface irregularities and imperfections, hide communications, and place complex lighting systems. An alternative to suspended structures is light shade PVC stretch ceiling: beige or cream. For the decoration of the ceiling, stucco elements, cornices and sills are usually used. Sockets for lamps are also designed in a special way. If the area of the room allows, then wide borders are mounted directly on top of the painting.

Furniture

For a hallway in a classic style, it is customary to choose furniture made made of natural solid wood. This environmentally friendly material looks decent even without special processing, and headsets made from it can serve more than one generation of owners. The advantages of wood also include durability and safety for the health of the inhabitants.

If it is impossible to purchase natural material, it is better to contact MDF - a material that is environmentally friendly and easily processed. In principle, it is not forbidden to purchase budget furniture made of chipboard, although its service life does not differ in duration.

For the classics, it is natural to use a small number of multifunctional objects, whose discreet shades ideally contrast with the color of the walls. In most projects, the leading role in the hallway is played by a traditional wardrobe with hinged blind doors. However, if it takes up too many valuable square meters, it is better to give preference to a classic-style wardrobe. For a small hallway, it is most reasonable to purchase a corner model. The sliding wardrobe facades must either have a mirror surface, or be decorated with gilding or semi-antique fittings.

For outerwear, a hanger is installed in the hallway: carved from wood or metal with non-bulky forged elements. An open shelf-hanger made of wood is also suitable. In a classic interior, an ottoman, a bench or an armchair will look organic. The frame of such furniture is preferable to select from wood or metal, and the upholstery - from satin, silk or jacquard in soothing shades. In a small hallway, it is better to put a bench or an option with a convertible top or a pull-out box.

A large mirror should be framed by a carved wooden or gilded frame. An alternative to it can be an elegant dressing table with curved legs. The ergonomic shoe rack allows you to tidy up scattered shoes, as well as significantly save space. Wooden models with carved or forged handles will ideally fit into the classic interior.

Before buying furniture, it is important to plan its location, and therefore find out the preferred dimensions.

For example, in a narrow hallway, you will have to limit yourself to hooks for outerwear, a shoe rack and a square ottoman. Each option you like is carefully reviewed for chips, cuts, dents and other damage. An unpleasant smell of products usually indicates the presence of low-quality or even dangerous components, so you should not purchase such samples. It is generally accepted that the highest quality furniture is made of oak, walnut or beech.

Lighting

For a hallway in a classic style, you will need not only a chandelier, but also auxiliary light sources that emphasize individual zones. On a large area, models imitating candles will organically look, but for a small room you will have to choose something more compact.Classic-style chandeliers tend to look like a cone, decorated with trimmings and decorative details. If possible, the central light source is highlighted with stucco molding.

It will also be possible to increase the intensity of the lighting by giving preference to a pastel finish interspersed with iridescent particles.

For additional lighting and space zoning, floor and wall lamps are suitable. Floor lamps and sconces should be placed symmetrically, for example, on the sides of the mirror or above the bench. The presence of a ceiling structure allows you to use spotlights - above the door, near the closet or around the perimeter of the room. If desired, large spotlights can even replace a massive central chandelier.

Decor

The decor chosen for the hallway in a classic style should be in harmony with the shade of the flooring and the color of the furniture. It is allowed to use floristic patterns, for example, on textiles, however, you will have to refuse small details of contrasting shades.

Sculptures and figurines should be made of bronze, silver, porcelain, wood or clay. A plus will be the presence of antiques, laconic watches and caskets. Living plants of large size, placed in beautiful ceramic flowerpots, will be a wonderful decoration of the hallway. It is also important to pay attention to fittings, for example, to decorate switches in bronze, and even a rug at the entrance.

It is customary to place paintings with neutral subjects, plaster bas-reliefs and photographs in dark wooden frames on the walls of a classic hallway. You can also choose a tapestry or panel, whose pattern will overlap with the furniture upholstery. Functional but stylish additions will be a key holder and an umbrella stand.

Beautiful examples of interior design

In a classic modern hallway, light gray wall decoration acts rather as a background for furniture made of expensive wood. The floor is covered with tiles, forming a calm geometric pattern, which is a necessary bright spot in a rather dark interior. The furniture is represented by several wardrobes up to the ceiling, including those with a mirrored facade. The main highlight of the interior is the dark wood dressing table, on the sides of which there are two sconces symmetrically located. In addition to these lamps, the lighting system also includes an unusual rounded chandelier that looks somewhat like a drum, and a lamp that illuminates the mirror. The floor basket for umbrellas or other little things looks interesting, as well as a decorative figurine of a dog.

The entrance hall looks fresh and spacious, for the decoration of which only two colors are used: white and black... The floor of the room is covered with black and white tiles, dividing the space into squares. The walls, like the ceiling, are white. An elegant glass chandelier in the shape of an inverted drop hangs from the ceiling, the rosette of which is decorated with stucco. Wide curbs run along the perimeter of the ceiling. The main storage space is the sliding wardrobe behind the glass facade. The hallway also contains a square black ottoman and a small table in the same color, on which there is a lamp and decorative elements.

The only bright spot in the room is a replica of the painting "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt.

A small hallway can be visually enlarged if it is decorated in pastel shades and limited to a small amount of functional furniture. The walls are painted in a light sandy shade and decorated with decorative elements. On the floor, square tiles of different sizes make up a laconic pattern. Four spotlights and a wall device are responsible for the lighting in the room, providing illumination of the mirror in a carved white frame. Sliding wardrobe with matte fronts provides an opportunity to store a large number of things. There is also a small snow-white chest of drawers in the hallway, on which decor items are placed, and a bench with leather upholstery.

In a small hallway, in the absence of a large amount of money, it is also realistic to organize a classic corner. It will be enough to paint the walls in a calm sandy shade, whitewash the ceiling and add several volumetric elements, and cover the floor with brown tiles. To expand a small space, all furniture is chosen in white: a chest of drawers, an open hanger with drawers and a swing cabinet. An elegant chandelier successfully copes with lighting the entire space, but sconces in the form of candlesticks hang on either side of the mirror in a silvered frame. The decor in this small room is virtually nonexistent.
