The owners of large hallways have access to serious possibilities for decorating the interior of the corridor in the apartment. And knowing how to furnish such rooms is far from enough. We will have to study the classic and decorated in other styles, square and other forms of the premises, their main nuances.

Peculiarities

The owners of modest rooms complain about design difficulties, but decorating a really large space is not much easier. A hallway for a house (apartment) is about the same as a face for a person, and therefore one should approach it just as carefully.

It is extremely important: the entire room must be made strictly in a single style.

Even high-end professionals can hardly create a decent design from several styles in such conditions.

There are such significant nuances:

  • without hesitation, you can enter dark shades - the main thing is that there are not too many of them;
  • simple light tones or their combination may look faded, but the problem is solved by introducing bright juicy accents;
  • a dark ceiling should be done only as a last resort;
  • small elements, both in patterns and ornaments, and in additional decor, it is more correct to avoid;
  • it is permissible to use heterogeneous contrasting tones.

Layout

Square

It should be borne in mind that in a corridor of this shape - contrary to popular belief - it is not always easy to decorate the walls and arrange furniture.

If the area is from 10 sq. m and more (this is the case of interest now), you must first of all take into account your needs.

Free areas in the corridors are mainly used to store things that do not have a place in other parts of the apartment.

Therefore, in a large hallway, it is quite appropriate solution to use a large cabinet that is placed on the entire wall. Space zoning should not take place outside, but inside; the best option to do this is to use curtains or small-sized translucent partitions.

Rectangular

The shape of a rectangle is slightly less favorable than a square.

In it, you will have to put everything so that the aisles are not already 80 cm.

However, over a wide area, this does not cause any problems. A single large accent must necessarily be highlighted, in relation to which the other situation is set up. Zoning is carried out to their liking, but at the same time they are guided by the well-established practice of allocating specific premises in the corridor.

With window

This option is not so common even in country houses. In apartments, he is completely lucky.

A typical small window goes well with narrow window sills.

With the right choice of their width, you can arrange all your favorite indoor plants.

Larger window sills can be used as:

  • bookshelves;
  • benches;
  • sofas with comfortable pillows;
  • built-in wardrobes.

Design

Classic

Both in an apartment and in a private house, classical ideas are reasonably considered one of the best options for decorating a corridor. They allow you to achieve the proper liveliness and originality. The number of accessories should be limited. Bright colors are unacceptable, except as local accents. The appearance must create a feeling of warmth and comfort.

In a real classic hallway, the following should be present:

  • aquariums;
  • mirrors in carved frames;
  • accessories of an emphasized exquisite look;
  • solid wood furniture;
  • surfaces finished with natural materials;
  • products obtained by forging or minting.

The big difficulty in the classic design of the hallway is that its appearance must be consistent with the appearance of other rooms. The discrepancy between the two leads to serious aesthetic problems.

If the walls are covered with wallpaper, then they should not have a clear ornament. Large flowers and geometric shapes are a design option that is outdated for decades, which is unambiguous kitsch.

It is recommended to lay ceramic tiles on the floor, visually in harmony with the appearance of the walls.

If you have a solid budget, it is more correct to use marble (monochrome or with a natural pattern).

Other relevant features of the classics:

  • a fundamental rejection of pronounced contrasts;
  • preference for light green and creamy, bronze and sand tones;
  • use of striped wallpaper;
  • active lighting of the room with many lamps (but without a glare);
  • the use of long curtains;
  • proportionality of all forms of furniture.

Italian style

If you want to get an elegant and practical space at the same time, it is quite reasonable to take a closer look at the Italian style. The use of warm sunny colors is typical for him.

Another characteristic feature is sophisticated brevity and emphasis on home warmth. It is allowed to use new materials.

In the modern version of the Italian style, the variety of colors is greater than in its original state.

Furniture made of lacquered oak or pine will be a very good find. Antique items also blend harmoniously into the setting.

It is very good if they have elegant upholstery on the outside.

The windows should be larger and ideally covered with lightweight tulle. The ceilings must be multi-level and contain wooden beams.

The main surfaces are finished with stone and bamboo, rattan and the usual solid wood.

If the look of a summer garden is imitated, potted trees are needed.

Natural colors prevail. The classic revision of the Italian interior hints at antiquity, as evidenced by the arches and columns, appropriate for a high ceiling. Its modern type is much closer to minimalism and allows the use of imitations of natural materials.

Colonial style

An extensive entrance hall can be completely decorated even in a colonial style. It contains both notes of old Europe and single borrowings from the traditional design of other regions of the world.

Important: if it is impossible to create high ceilings, put wide windows, there is nothing to think about such a performance.

But if there is an opportunity, even a sophisticated audience will be delighted. The closeness to nature (due to the use of natural materials) is necessarily emphasized.

All surfaces are usually decorated in colorful colors. Bronze figurines, thick fabric floor lamps and lampshades are welcome. The panels, carved from dark wood, are also quite consistent with the principles of colonial coloring.

"Animal" motives and living plants are very valuable. The connection with distant countries is emphasized with the help of exotic items and handmade decor, landscapes.

Retro

A more harmonious option is a retro-style hallway. It can be combined with the most varied styles of other rooms in perfect harmony.

Contrary to popular myth, the retro approach does not require the limitations of the color palette and meticulous selection of materials.

The easiest way to create the right attitude is to use accessories that are appropriate for the period being simulated. Retro wallpaper with a checkered or striped pattern is also invariably appropriate; small to medium floral designs can be used with or alone.

Other nuances of retro style:

  • active use of aged wood;
  • old-fashioned furniture;
  • metal or lacquered wooden poufs and floor hangers;
  • replacing dressers with wicker baskets or chests;
  • large wall clock;
  • mirrors in gilded frames.

Provence

Do not discount the style of Provence. This hallway is decorated in milky, lavender, light green or delicate yellow tones. She is necessarily decorated with potted flowers. At least a few surfaces should be decorated with floral patterns. Another indispensable feature is the presence of aged things.

To avoid the effect of the "old closet", furniture is carried out with the expectation of maximum airiness of the situation.

Since it is stupid to refuse a cabinet, you just have to fit it into the room. Mirrors are advised to be taken with forged frames. You can get the original look of the walls by:

  • applying paint directly to them;
  • application of wallpaper for painting;
  • combining wallpaper with dissimilar patterns and textures.

Lighting

In hallways, lamps with white or yellow light are most appropriate. White frosted luminaires with an energy-saving design are especially good.

In a square room, you can limit yourself to a single central ceiling lamp. But in an oblong space, several lamps will be required, preferably suspended on the wall.

Attention: you need to think not only about the aesthetics of the lighting system, but also about compliance with fire protection standards.

Disguised backlighting has become a fashionable trend of late. Light can come, for example, from a cornice or from a ceiling niche.

A truly traditional solution is a chandelier.

A more modern approach dictates the use of spots. Separate illumination designed for night hours is also useful.

If the spirit of the 1980s is imitated, then neon lamps, including flexible neon, are appropriate.

How to furnish

Since there is no need to save space, it is quite reasonable to equip it with the use of shoe dressers and shelves for hats and scarves.

In the most impressive halls, it is recommended to put fireplaces with armchairs or guest sofas.

A small library may even be organized.

If there are windows, it is appropriate to organize a leisure area, creative or sports corner near them. Sometimes even a large hallway itself has a corner structure, and then again a corner cabinet is most optimal.

To improve lighting during the daytime, glass interior doors are helpful. It is more correct to order furniture. One cabinet is definitely better than several small cabinets. The use of narrow or standardized pedestals is allowed. And of course, you need to take into account your individual tastes and needs.

Accessories can be very diverse. The use of statuettes of various types is justified. It is quite rational to install modular storage systems. A worthy addition to the decor will also be:

  • paintings;
  • panels;
  • decorative stucco molding.

Beautiful examples of the interior

  • The old-fashioned chandelier and mesh patterns on individual surfaces are quite harmonious in many corridors. Discreet but expressive, the floor also creates a favorable impression.
  • And this is what a room looks like with a high concentration of light yellow. Doors and other interior elements of a classic look are perceived quite harmoniously.
  • A chic mirror, a landing couch and other decorative graceful elements can immediately create a positive attitude.
