An entrance hall is a place where a person enters a house or apartment for the first time. The interior of this place is extremely important, because the impression of the whole house depends on it. When renovating, it is important to make sure that the hallway becomes a natural continuation of the rooms, combined with them in style. The solution to this problem can be called a detailed plan, in which it is necessary to think over the smallest nuances of the future appearance of the corridor.

With a good plan in hand, you can end up with a beautiful renovation throughout the apartment. The appearance of the ceiling is of great importance when creating a unique hallway interior.

By type of structure, ceilings are divided into several types.

Simple

If we are talking about simple ceilings, then we are talking about putty and plastered surfaces. This option is considered obsolete. The alignment procedure requires a lot of experience, and a beginner is unlikely to be able to finish the ceiling on his own.

Stretch

Stretch options are considered one of the most expensive, but they can not be denied a lot of advantages. The materials used are fabric-based or PVC-based polymer boards. The material is durable and fire resistant.

To mount the ceiling structure, first a frame is created from slats. Then the material is stretched onto the base under a stream of hot air on a rack frame drawn along the entire ceiling of the room. Matte fabric-based material is expensive, but PVC-based options are much cheaper. The latter option is presented in rich colors and has a glossy surface.

Among the advantages of the material is a beautiful appearance. In addition, these ceilings are easy to clean. You can embed different types of lamps on the stretch ceiling and visually expand the space. Designers present tensioning options in a huge variety of colors and textures.

Suspended

Suspended models have a complex design: a frame made of galvanized steel elements is used for installation. The material for lining the ceiling is metal or wood slats, sometimes gypsum sheets are used. It is better to mount the hinged version in a space with high ceilings, since such structures immediately reduce 15-20 cm below them.

Rack

The metal-rail ceiling is perfect for decorating not only hallways, but also rooms with high humidity. If the room is not heated, this option is also relevant. Rack ceilings do not deteriorate due to the abundance of moisture in the air, they perfectly tolerate extreme heat or cold, they are durable.

This type of construction is more often equipped in private housing than in apartments. Thin aluminum slats are used as material. On sale there are matte or glossy options in different colors. The most popular are gold-plated, chrome-plated or bronze types of material.

Sibling

Single-level structures have no height differences. One-level ceilings are well suited for small corridors and add organicness to the overall design.

Two-tier

Ceilings on two levels are created in such a way that another step appears at the top. This is a rather interesting design technique that creates a sense of the versatility of space in the interior. The two-level design also serves a functional purpose: ventilation or wiring can be hidden behind a step. The advantage of such ceilings is space zoning.

Multilevel

These ceilings differ from other options in complex geometry and the presence of several tiers. Such designs can be combined - made of several types of material.

Finishing materials

Finishing materials must be durable and have a long shelf life. Another important rule is that the texture of the finish should be combined with the design of the entire room.

PVC boards

The material is not expensive, but it is easy to install and is durable. Foam sheets adhere perfectly even to ordinary glue. This finish assumes perfectly flat surfaces, which can then be decorated. However, such designs may look a little old-fashioned. The sheets are based on polystyrene, which is distinguished by its density and strength. The advantage of PVC sheets in a huge selection of textures and colors. In addition, the slabs can be easily attached to the non-plastered ceiling.

Plates with mirrored surfaces are analogous to the well-known mirrored ceiling. The special film reflects the space beautifully and visually expands the room.

Plastic panels

Plastic panels were at the top of fashion ten years ago. Today, slabs made of this material can often be seen in offices, and they are also used in bathroom renovations. If you choose the right colors, think over the position of the planks, then you can arrange an unusual interior of the hallway ceiling. For example, the material in beige or brown colors will repeat the natural colors of the wood and will add a cozy atmosphere to any room.

If the planks are directed across the narrow hallway, then the space will look visually wider.

Installation of plastic sheets is carried out either on the base or using suspensions. For this procedure, liquid nails or self-tapping screws are used. Caring for a plastic ceiling is quite simple.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is rarely used in ceiling decoration these days as there are so many other options on the market. However, the wallpaper is environmentally friendly and is not that expensive. The only drawback of the material is the need to clean the ceiling from the old material. Wallpapers are presented in various versions, they differ in color and texture. There are configurations for subsequent staining. Products are produced both with a paper base and with a non-woven base. Fabric wallpaper looks the most beautiful, but it cannot be washed.

Drywall

This material works best on corridor ceilings. From drywall, you can create multi-tiered surfaces of any design, mount any lighting and beautifully beat the interior of the entire room. From this material, pilasters, columns and arches are erected, which allow you to visually divide the space into sections.

Drywall does not require additional preparation before installation. Ventilation or wiring can be removed from the sheets.

Advantages of drywall over analogues:

  • quick installation;
  • rich selection of colors;
  • the ability of the material to change shape to create architectural compositions;
  • strength;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • the possibility of using in combination with other materials;
  • long service life.

Drywall perfectly stores heat and creates additional sound insulation. However, the installation “eats up” a few centimeters of height, so this option is only suitable for high ceilings.

Mirrored ceilings

Mirrored ceilings look very interesting and unusual. This non-standard solution will make the space visually wider. For installation, a frame is first created, on which mirror layers are then attached. The decoration allows you to figuratively "double" the space. Mirrored ceilings create a completely unique lighting experience.

Made of wood (boards)

Natural wood has a lot of advantages, although MDF material is relatively rarely used for finishing ceilings. Wood is environmentally friendly, keeps heat and creates excellent sound insulation.The disadvantage of wooden ceilings is the instability to moisture, but this problem is also solved with the help of special impregnations.

Stained glass

Stained-glass windows are luxury finishing materials. Beautiful glass mosaics can form completely unexpected patterns and look great in any room. Stained glass mosaic looks expensive and fits well with the classical or Baroque style. Also, mosaic ceilings interestingly complement the style of Art Nouveau, Gothic or hi-tech. Built-in lighting will allow you to reveal all the beauty and sophistication of the mosaic, so sometimes this option is better than a regular chandelier.

Material for creating a ceiling design in the hallway can be anything. The choice is influenced by the size of the budget, the parameters of the hallway, as well as the style of the room. In budget options, ceiling painting, wallpaper and PVC plates are often used. Installation of structures made of these materials does not imply much experience in finishing work. With the right choice of textures, patterns and colors, such ceilings will look good in the hallway. For lovers of naturalness and eco-style, wood will be the best choice. For connoisseurs of ceilings, which do not need much maintenance, tension options are quite suitable.

Stained glass mosaic ceilings are among the most expensive decor options. Such structures can have several tiers and built-in lighting. This is a great option that will emphasize the individuality of the space.

Height

Ceiling height is an important indicator that must be considered when choosing a finishing material. For example, a large chandelier or tiered designs will not work for low ceilings. The drawing or print should also be consistent with the design of the entire room. For small corridors, too large prints will not be appropriate.

There are several guidelines.

  1. Rules described in SNiP, states that the height of the ceilings in apartments must be at least 2.5 meters. These standards have been relevant for a long time, and they correspond to the height of the ceilings in old apartments.
  2. New SanPin does not provide data on the height of the ceilings, so the homeowner can create a ceiling space according to his project.

Design

The design of the ceiling spaces must match the interiors of adjacent spaces. The general appearance of ceilings can have the following types of configurations.

  • Soaring structures. The stretch ceiling seems to float above the room. It is this option that is considered the most relevant at the moment. This effect is created thanks to special lighting, which is carried out along the entire perimeter of the room.
  • Curly. The ceiling space is filled with a variety of figures, this option looks more interesting and unusual than the usual flat ceilings. The material for such structures is often drywall or foam. Frame curly coverings are considered exclusive models.
  • Matte finish. Matte ceilings look great in any interior and are great for multi-level structures. Best of all, ceilings of this type are combined with spot lighting.
  • Glossy surfaces. Glossy coatings make the room visually more spacious; PVC plates are used as the main material.
  • Beam structures. Quite an unusual and interesting solution that is often used in the interior of modern apartments. The beams are great for any style. Beamed ceilings look both in a romantic Provence and in a simple loft style. Beams can be painted in the same color as the ceiling, imitate a wood pattern or act as metal bearing supports.

The choice of design depends only on the wishes of the owner of the apartment. It is also important to choose the most advantageous option depending on the area and layout of the hallway.

  1. For a long hallway (most popular layout).The following is required from the decoration: to expand the narrow space and visually shorten it. The options will look better in which the corridor ceiling is a tone lighter than the walls. White surfaces look good. Light glossy materials will create additional volume. Transverse ceiling elements will visually expand the hallway. Structures in several tiers, complemented by LED backlighting, will help to smooth the lines a little.
  2. The hallway is in the shape of a square. The square arrangement is considered ideal - any design idea can be realized on it. You can give preference to simple shapes and calm colors, or you can implement completely unexpected complex geometric solutions.

The color of the future ceiling is of great importance. The color is chosen taking into account the color of the walls, floor, furniture. The following options are considered the most popular.

  1. White color is a classic, it goes well with other colors of the rainbow. The white coating emphasizes the advantages of the space, giving the interior a sense of cleanliness and modernity.
  2. Black or gray. A non-standard option is a dark ceiling, which is well suited for laconic minimalism.
  3. Beige, sandy, brown. These are natural colors that visually make the hallway wider, create coziness in it.
  4. Bright colours. A colorful ceiling, for example, yellow, is an interesting accent in the interior, which should be in harmony with furniture and walls.

Lighting

The luminaire should not only perfectly fulfill its direct "duties", but also be in harmony with the general style of the room. The most popular luminaires are as follows.

  1. Spot luminaires - lamps, the light of which can be directed in any direction. This model allows you to focus on a specific object. There are both ceiling and wall options. Ceiling lamps provide the ability to direct light onto an object, increase or decrease the brightness. A very relevant option in rooms with low ceilings.
  2. LED lights. The strip luminaire is often installed on walls and ceilings. In most cases it is used as additional lighting. If the tape is installed along the perimeter of the ceiling, then the structure takes on the effect of hovering over the space.
  3. With lamps. Conventional lamps are still relevant and will never go out of style. It is better to pre-select bulbs with a certain brightness and power.
  4. Lamps on the shelf. Light sources are placed in a niche in the ceiling or on shelves. Quite a non-standard solution that looks beautiful in the interior.

Beautiful examples

Beautiful examples created by the best designers will be described below. They can be taken into account during design or used for inspiration.

  • A stretch ceiling of white color, equipped with additional lighting, will look beautiful and interesting in any room.
  • A two-level ceiling with a beautiful curly detail in the middle is a great alternative.
  • Geometric shapes will never go out of style. An ordinary white ceiling is literally transformed with black glass elements.
  • The two-level ceiling combines two textures at once: a matte base and an unusual glossy figure in the center. On the side, you can see the original location of the spot lighting.
  • In a modern living room, a monolithic stretch ceiling will look organic and interesting.
  • Original colors will help to make the interior unusual and unique. This is what we see in the following example. The bronze perimeter is beautifully complemented by a carved notch. Spot lighting is installed along the perimeter of the structure.
  • A "star" ribbon of lamps looks romantic and beautiful in the room. Such an unusual solution will transform even an ordinary ceiling.
  • Sometimes even one lamp is enough to make the space fabulously beautiful.In this case, this is what happens: only one lamp is visible in the matte ceiling, but it is also enough to transform the room.
  • The modern interior assumes the possibility of playing with images, styles and designs. If a blue round "window" is installed in a white canvas, the room will look like a space station. The "window" into space is illuminated by small lamps.
