Proper lighting literally transforms any room, including the hallway. The light should not be too bright, but it must illuminate a small space well, because the first thing that is visible when entering the apartment is the hallway. This room performs a whole range of important functions, which are also taken into account when choosing lighting.

There are a huge number of wall lamps, but all of them can be divided into several types. The main difference is in the method of attachment to surfaces. Designers have created a huge range of lighting fixtures of all sizes and shapes. The corridor wall lamp not only directs the light, but also complements the interior.

Sconce

Sconces are one of the most popular types of lamps. They look great in any room and can be placed at any height. Lamps of this type can be used as the main lighting or several sconces can be installed around the perimeter of the hallway.

Also, with the help of a sconce, you can illuminate mirrors, make a light accent on unusual furniture. The design of such lamps involves a huge number of options. Luminaires are made of wood, plastic, fabric and glass.

Plafonds

Plafonds are compact and look very nice in the hallway. They are simply irreplaceable if you need to illuminate a small space. Shades are produced in different design solutions and can have the most interesting colors and shapes.

Luminaires with a natural theme are quite in demand. Classic models most often have matte surfaces in light colors. Designs in the Art Nouveau, loft or high-tech style are distinguished by non-standard shapes, but the colors are most often muted and calm.

Spots

This type of luminaire is a plafond mounted on a leg. Spots allow you to direct the light in any direction. They are quite durable and perfectly complement any interior. Luminaires can have one or more sockets. The spots are fixed both on the common area and are placed separately.

Design

The design of modern lighting fixtures is simply amazing. It is believed that it is best to use shades or sconces in light colors in the hallway, which visually make the space larger. Luminaires are selected depending on the parameters of the corridor:

  • long lamps look great in rectangular hallways;
  • rounded or triangular lamps will perfectly fit into the interior of square corridors.

It is in the hallway that the person who enters the apartment gets.

The whole impression of the interior of the home depends on the appearance of the corridor. You can make the space wider with the help of lamps that fit beautifully into the design of the hallway.

Sometimes the lamps repeat the colors and materials of the door or furniture that are in the hallway. If the rest of the apartment is decorated in a loft or high-tech style, then point lighting structures are perfect. For a classic style, models with graceful curves and restrained colors are suitable. The main thing here is the harmony between the design of the lamps and other interior elements.

How to choose?

When choosing a lamp in a store, the following parameters are decisive:

  • the size of the corridor;
  • hallway interior;
  • type of light and desired brightness.

If the dimensions of the hallway are small, then it is better to choose small shades that will beautifully diffuse the light. If a rug is laid in the corridor, and a key keeper, lockers or a mirror are located nearby, lighting is simply necessary.

In addition, when choosing lighting, you need to understand what effect you want to achieve.

Regular light bulbs give off a warm, yellowish light. However, this option is considered outdated and not very convenient: light bulbs need to be constantly changed, and they do not save electricity.

Energy saving light bulbs are more practical, they do not need to be changed as often, and they also give a bright light. Although the latter option is more expensive, the purchase of such lamps will pay off over time - they serve for many years. The disadvantage of energy-saving light bulbs is the impossibility of throwing them away with the rest of the trash. Energy-saving options contain a little mercury and must be disposed of. Such points have existed for a long time in large cities.

Halogen options are also considered economical, but they work with high luminous efficiency. Interestingly, the most unusual modern lamps are created for halogen bulbs. The lack of such specimens in ultraviolet light, because, in fact, a light bulb is a miniature sun. Sometimes the light from "halogens" can negatively affect the condition of furniture and things: surfaces become stained or fade.

LED bulbs consume less energy and turn on quickly. Whereas energy saving lamps can take about a minute to warm up. LED structures do not heat up, do not contain heavy metals or harmful gases. But they also cost more.

Attention should be paid to the type of flask, which can be either transparent or matte. The brightness of light from frosted bulbs is reduced by almost a third. This is a great option to get a subdued warm light, but the selected bulbs are too bright. However, you can always choose a light bulb with a lower wattage.

The color of the canvas and walls also depends on the type of lighting. For example, white light can be too bright or have a yellowish warm tone. Luminaires can also have lighting that is as close to daylight as possible. There are options with bluish lighting. Using these parameters, combining the interior of the hallway and the type of lighting, you can create a special atmosphere in the room.

As a rule, any light bulb can be screwed into ordinary lamps; they have no restrictions in this parameter. The basic rule is that the light bulb must fit the size of the socket. You can buy different bulbs and experiment a little with lighting.

In a classic interior, a chandelier looks great, complemented by a beautiful sconce. Depending on the overall interior of the room, you can choose the ideal lighting fixture. On sale you can find many interesting classic sconces that imitate wood or have glass elements. Some models have the shape of a candelabrum, in which the plafonds act as beautiful "candles". Ball-shaped sconces are available, which also fit well with the classic style of room decoration.

For more minimalistic interiors, modern lamps are selected. Play with shapes and colors is encouraged. Square, rounded models, complemented by beautiful fittings, are perfect for the loft style. If the lamp has a bright color, then it can become a color accent in the interior.

If the design of the hallway belongs to the modern or high-tech stylethen it is better to use beautiful chrome lamps or spots. The designs have simple yet interesting shapes and create a sense of timeliness and dynamics.

When the walls are decorated in an interesting style, it is better to choose the same lamps. For wooden, textured brick surfaces, point shades are well suited, which divide the room into certain zones. Lamps with non-standard shapes will fit into the overall mood of the interior and will become its highlight.

If you like the culture of the East, then in the modern assortment you can find beautiful carved sconces and shades. Models often have an exquisite shape, complemented by pendants or pebbles. Many lamps are created in the Japanese style (lanterns, square sconces with hieroglyphs). For such models, natural materials are often used in the form of rice paper or bamboo.

For a Provence style corridor sconces in the form of flashlights are well suited. They will perfectly fit into the overall mood of the interior.

Where to locate?

Lighting should be such as to decorate the interior, but also fulfill its purpose. A soft light will look best in the corridor so that a person does not feel uncomfortable after walking along a night street. In this case, the light should not fall directly on the mirror - in this case, the light will be reflected and blind the eyes. Zoning lights can be placed around the perimeter of the mirror.

Light is obliged to emphasize the advantages of the interior and hide the slightest flaws. In spacious rooms, it is better to zoning areas with the help of light. This approach will save on electricity. This option is also relevant for narrow corridors.

A number of individual fixtures suspended along the wall will look good. However, more energy will be consumed. The best option would be paired sconces.

The classic option is when the sconces are located on the side of the mirror.

Beautiful examples

Luminaires should be combined with the overall interior. This will make the room look beautiful and organic.
