An entrance hall is a room that is the face of any apartment or house, it is she who creates the very first impression of the home. Therefore, the choice of furniture, interior items and lighting products should be approached as consciously and seriously as possible. Thanks to the correct choice of place and the required brightness of the lighting, you can change the impression of the room, and, if necessary, hide the imperfections of the room and emphasize its advantages. The main burden of lighting the hallway falls on the chandelier.

In order to make the right choice of products for lighting in the hallway, first of all, it is necessary to assess the size of the room. Depending on the size of the room, you need to determine the number of light sources: the larger the hallway, the more lighting points it needs. You also need to take into account the shape of the room. In the corridor, which is quite long and narrow, lamps of the same type are mounted, while completely different ones are suitable for a square room.

Currently, manufacturers offer a large selection of different decorative lighting fixtures. The most common and familiar are ceiling chandeliers for the hallway. However, sometimes it is still worth making a choice in favor of wall models.

Today there is an opportunity to purchase products with a motion sensor. Such models seem to be convenient and economical. Thanks to the presence of such a sensor, there is no need to constantly turn on or off the light. The device reacts to human movement, immediately turning on and off when a person leaves the room. That is, the light will only burn when it is really needed. In this case, there is no need to worry about turning off the light on time, you will not have to overpay for the consumed electricity.

LED chandeliers are another option to provide light in the room. They are luminaires that work on LEDs, thanks to which they are economical and serve for a long time. They can be presented in both wall and ceiling versions.

In rare cases, lighting fixtures are mounted on the floor or at the bottom of the wall. But such sources can only be used as additional sources.

Wall mounted

Wall-mounted luminaires are a great option for corridors that cannot boast of high enough ceilings.

In this case, the lighting fixture does not hang from the ceiling, but is mounted on the wall.

For long rooms, you can use several of the same wall lights. This will effectively illuminate the entire length of the corridor.

Ceiling

Lamps for the hallway, which are mounted on the ceiling, can be of two types: suspended and directly ceiling.

  • Ceiling chandeliers do not have any space between the plane of the ceiling and the luminaire itself. That is, the light source is fixed directly to the plane of the ceiling. Usually, these products are small in size, although at present manufacturers also offer large-sized models. When installing a ceiling chandelier, the bulbs are located directly under the ceiling, and if the height of the room is large enough, then such diffused light may not be enough. You will need to equip additional sources near the cabinet or mirror.

For a small room or a room with low ceilings, it is the ceiling chandeliers that seem to be the best option. Due to their rather flat design, such lamps will not interfere with a person moving around the room and changing clothes in it.

  • Hanging chandeliers are a classic version that has been used for a very long time. In such a lamp, the bulbs are located at some distance from the plane of the ceiling, since the structure is suspended on a wire, a special "leg" or a chain. Such a chandelier is located lower than the ceiling lamp, as a result of which it illuminates the lower part of the room more brightly. Whereas less light enters the ceiling, which allows you to hide the defects on it. A pendant chandelier is great for tall hallways.

Style and design

Modern lighting manufacturers offer various ideas for hallway lighting. A chandelier for this room should not only be functional, but also harmoniously fit into the interior of the room, without getting out of the style solution. Therefore, when choosing a specific model, the style of the hallway must be taken into account so that this decorative element does not look out of place. It is also required to calculate the number of required light sources so that there are not many of them. Even in a very long and dark corridor, you should not place the lamps at a distance closer than 60 cm from each other.

As a rule, the hallway has a rather laconic design, so the chandelier should not be too pompous or pretentious. It is recommended to give preference to calm models.

The design of the hallway luminaires is divided into two main trends: classic and modern. In turn, each of them is further divided into a significant number of different styles.

The classic design direction of luminaires includes the following main styles:

  • Victorian;
  • empire style;
  • Romanesque;
  • rococo;
  • classicism;
  • baroque.

Classic models are distinguished by a large number of decorative elements, sophistication of lines, complex shapes and shiny surfaces, often with gilding. Usually it is a pendant chandelier with several arms; they can be equipped with exquisite shades or many pendants of various shapes. The wide model is suitable for various rooms, while the elongated one will only look harmonious in a room with high ceilings.

The modern design direction is reflected in the following styles:

  • minimalism;
  • futurism;
  • loft;
  • constructivism;
  • pop Art;
  • high tech.

Chandeliers of modern styles are distinguished by the simplest forms. (square, circle, oval), the minimum amount of details and emphasis on the practicality of the product. These models often use LED light sources.

Ethnic styles (African, Chinese, Egyptian, Scandinavian, Japanese, etc.) are distinguished as a separate group. Ethnic chandeliers are distinguished by their originality, but they need to be purchased only for rooms with an appropriate design. Otherwise, even a magnificent designer chandelier will look completely ridiculous.

Luminaire manufacturers offer consumers chandeliers made of a variety of materials:

  • crystal chandelier - timeless classic that allows you to create iridescent light in the room;
  • textile lamps create soft pleasant lighting;
  • glass products illuminate the space with clear bright light;
  • anti-glare plastic allows you to achieve a velvet glow;
  • structures made of wood, rattan, bamboo add warmth and comfort to the room.

Of no small importance is the color of the chandelier in the hallway. In most cases, preference is given to white models, but sometimes it is advisable to pay attention to products of other shades.

  • The classic white color brings lightness to the room.
  • The gray shade looks great in combination with metal, glass and cement surfaces. Fits perfectly into modern design rooms.
  • For a warmer, comfortable shade, you should pay attention to the shades of sand, beige, cream shades.
  • A bright hallway will be decorated with a red chandelier, the light from which will help make a person more energetic, cheerful and active.
  • Black color speaks of the decisiveness of the owner of the premises. A lamp of this color will add elegance and originality to any hallway.
  • The green shade for shades was popular at the beginning of the twentieth century. However, it is more suitable for classrooms or libraries.
  • Brown chandeliers resemble natural wood, so the room becomes more comfortable. Suitable for rooms decorated in ethnic styles.

Which one to choose?

The choice of a light source for the hallway must be approached consciously. You can't buy a chandelier just because you like the model itself. First of all, it is necessary to assess its relevance, practicality and functionality in a particular room. In order not to later regret the thoughtless choice, it is worth adhering to certain rules:

  • for a spacious room, one large chandelier is perfect, designed for several bulbs;
  • for a small apartment and, accordingly, a small hallway, it is worth choosing a compact lamp;
  • in a narrow corridor, it is necessary to mount a chandelier, which in its width is no more than 1/3 of the width of the room;
  • it is recommended to place lamps of the same rectangular shape in a rectangular room;
  • for square hallways, light sources made in a round or square shape are best suited.

In order to save energy for spacious, but dark rooms, it is worth purchasing a chandelier for several lamps, at least 2 lamps, with the possibility of choosing to turn on both at once or only one of them.

In a small room, a chandelier with only one lamp will suffice.

For stretch ceilings, it is preferable to use recessed luminaires. However, modern technologies make it possible to install any chandeliers on stretch ceilings. But fixing the luminaire is complicated by the need to use a special mounting platform, which is hidden behind the ceiling.

Beautiful examples in the interior

So that the chandelier for the hallway harmoniously complements the room, fits well into it, pleases the owners and their guests, it is necessary to choose stylish models in accordance with the size of the room, its height, general design, and the required lighting power.

  • High-tech hallway implies the absence of pretentious decorative elements, so the chandelier in this case should also be small. It is advisable to use black or white lamps that will not stand out from the overall picture.
  • Provence is another style, for which it is easy to choose a lamp. In color, it should match the wallpaper in the corridor, but the shape is best to choose a light one.
  • Neoclassical chandelier should be luxurious - several tiers, candle lamps or hanging decorations.
  • A minimalist lighting element is suitable for any interior. For example, a lamp enclosed in a black frame looks great. It can be wooden, in the form of a pyramid, inside which is a light source, or metal, in the form of a ball.

Perhaps corridor lights are not the most important part of a room's design. However, it is with the help of the original product that a completely different perception of the entire hallway can be achieved.

Correctly selected corridor chandelier allows you to visually adjust the space. Streams of light can visually expand a room or add height to walls. The offered variety of colors, shapes, sizes and materials of manufacture allows you to choose the ideal option for a hallway of any size and configuration.
